Florida State is looking to repeat as ACC champion this year, and the Seminoles are officially the favorite to do so. FSU came in as the No. 1 team in the conference’s preseason poll, which came out Wednesday evening.

Florida State received 81 first-place votes to take the top spot. Clemson came in at No. 2 with 55 first-place votes, followed by Miami, which got 17. The ACC is entering a new era this year with three new teams – Cal, Stanford and SMU – joining the fray.

This year also marks the second straight year without divisions in the league, meaning the top two teams make the conference championship. Here’s the full ACC preseason poll, which came out after Media Days last week in Charlotte.

  1. Florida State (81 first-place votes)
  2. Clemson (55)
  3. Miami (17)
  4. NC State (8)
  5. Louisville
  6. Virginia Tech (5)
  7. SMU
  8. North Carolina
  9. Georgia Tech (1)
  10. Cal (2)
  11. Duke
  12. Syracuse
  13. Pitt
  14. Boston College (1)
  15. Wake Forest
  16. Virginia
  17. Stanford

The new-look ACC will officially debut in Week 0 when Florida State and Georgia Tech square off in Dublin. It all culminates with the conference championship back in Charlotte in December.

How FSU will look different with DJ Uiagalelei at QB

Florida State lost some big-time firepower from last year’s team, notably with quarterback Jordan Travis and wide receiver Keon Coleman heading to the NFL. The Seminoles turned to the transfer portal to help replace that production, with DJ Uiagalelei as the biggest splash. The former Clemson and Oregon State star will help the offense take on a new look this year, and it’ll be interesting to see what Alex Atkins and the staff do different.

Although it’ll be a new-look offense, Uiagalelei could still be set up for success at FSU, according to Warchant’s Ira Schoffel. Based on what he did during his lone season at Oregon State, he might not miss a beat as he takes over in Tallahassee.

“I think that’s gonna fit well with what DJ did if you looked at what he did at Oregon State. I think the he improved there compared to what he did at Clemson partly because that’s what they asked him to do,” Schoffel told Kaiden Smith on On3 Roundtable. “He didn’t complete a high, high percentage of passes, but he completed a high number of yards per attempt and per completion and I think Florida State’s kind of built that same way. They’re gonna really run the ball, be physical, and then lead DJ take some shots down the field.”
