Recap from West AM practice: Among skill players, I think you have to start out with Gatlin Bair. The uncommitted receiver simply moves at a different level than everyone on the West team. He had several highlight plays throughout the practice. Got going with a win on a deep ball in 1-on-1s where he slowed down for an under-thrown pass, adjusted, hung in the air and made the catch. Had a fantastic diving, toe-tapping grab on a blaze-out route in 1-on-1s that most receivers would not be able to catch. He elevated for it, drug his foot as he was falling out of bounds. He also got deep for a TD in 1-on-1s. He really eats up grass and plays up to his elite track speed. Showed encouraging ball skills as well and just overall functional movement skills. This is not a track athlete trying to play football. This is a football player who happens to be an elite athlete.

Clemson signee Christian Bentacur and Nebraska signee Carter Nelson both had good days.

On the line of scrimmage, I think the most active players throughout morning practice was Washington EDGE signee Noah Carter. He had a great win in 1-on-1s against Michigan OT signee Andrew Sprague and was all over the place in the team period to close practice. He had a ton of plays behind the line of scrimmage, fantastic play speed, his first-step quickness was evident.

The top defensive lineman looked to be Justin Scott, the five-star Miami signee, he really did what he wanted in 1-on-1s. Very disruptive, was walking guards back to the QB and even lined up as a big defensive end in the team work. Really light on his feet, you can look at him and tell he’s a top athlete. Very well-built at 6-foot-4, 310 pounds.

Other lineman on the front that I thought looked good: USC EDGE signee Kameryn Fountain is built extremely well and had a great win in 1-on-1s on the edge. On the interior, I thought the best rep of the day that I saw was by LSU signee Coen Echols. He looks like a good center prospect, plays with leverage, has a strong anchor.

On the defensive backs, I thought the top corner of the day in the morning was Michigan signee Jo’Ziah Edmond. Tall, long, good coverage instincts. I did not see him get beat in 1-on-1s at all and he was essentially lock down in coverage.

At safety, I think Aaron Flowers showed maybe the most diverse skillset at the safety position. The Oregon signee made plays in every setting of practice, was good in 1-on-1s and was very good in team drills as well. Ran down several plays, showed he has good coverage ability and we know he’s physical and just has good instincts.

Alabama safety signee Peyton Woodyard took a ton of reps in 1-on-1s and had very good coverage. I think he only lost maybe one or two reps that I saw — with one of the few losses being on a deep ball to Ryan Wingo. Also at safety, Minnesota signee Koi Perich had a handful of plays. Blew up an RPO in team drills.

Also in defense, I think the clear standout at linebacker was Notre Dame signee Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. He was outstanding in 11-on-11. Quickly made multiple plays behind the line of scrimmage. You can tell he’s instinctual and just knows how to play — and plays fast. I think this is a setting that’s difficult for LBs to show out, but Viliamu-Asa managed to do that, so that’s a feather in his cap after a really good showing on day one. — Charles Power

Recap from East AM practice: On Wednesday we had a generally slow day at Trinity University for Team East’s practice this morning. The majority of practice was non-competitive consisting of individual periods, routes-on-air and walk-through periods. During these portions a lot of the skill players on offense shined including Clemson WR TJ Moore and Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith. They make everything look so smooth and effortless and standout physically among the other receivers on the team.

We did get some pads popping during a limited 9-on-7 period where Florida DL signee LJ McCray was disruptive even in such a short time frame. Notre Dame EDGE Bryce Young was also someone who made their presence felt coming off the edge. From a physical standpoint, the running back group looks incredible. Notre Dame RB Kedren Young, Ohio State RB James Peoples and Georgia RB Chauncey Bowens are all rocked up. We’ll see if we get more competitive periods during the combined portion in the Alamodome. — Cody Bellaire

11:53 a.m. CT — East: Wrapped up at Trinity. Two-hour break and then we meet up at the Alamodome. — Cody Bellaire

11:52 a.m CT — West: Strong DB showing as well from Michigan signee Jo’Ziah Edmond — long and rangy and good playing the ball. Oregon safety signee Aaron Flowers was excellent on coverage underneath and downfield. In this analysts opinion one of the most well rounded playmaking safety in the nation, and he showed it at west today in AM practice. — Sam Spiegelman

11:50 a.m. CT — West: Strong downfield coverage by Oregon LB Kamar Mothudi to break up a wheel route thrown by Auburn QB Walker White intended for Arizona State RB Jason Brown. Washington EDGE Noah Carter with another tackle for loss on a run play. TCU QB Hauss Hejny keeps it, shows off his speed but Oregon safety Aaron Flowers has an angle and makes a play. Working on punt now for the West, presumably to wrap up practice. — Charles Power

11:45 a.m. CT — East: Going through walk-through right now. Think coaches are keep the players fresh for the competitive periods when we link up with Team West at the Alamodome. Have not had a competitive period outside of 7-on-7 for one period. Slower day out here for the East. — Cody Bellaire

11:40 a.m. CT — West: Action from the west: Notre Dame LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa triggers quickly to stop a QB sneak in its tracks. Iowa LB signee Derek Weisskopf tracks down a swing pass to Arizona State RB Jason Brown in the flats. Washington EDGE Noah Carter tracks down a Jason Brown outside run from behind. Texas QB Trey Owens with a bomb to WR Gatlin Bair, a very long throw but a bit under thrown and USC CB Marcelles Williams makes up the gap to force a PBU.

Arkansas DL Charleston Collins stymies an outside run by Georgia RB Nate Frazier. Great read on the run by Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa to bring down Nate Frazier behind the line. Auburn QB Walker White rolls out and hits Nebraska TE Carter Nelson in the end zone for a TD — Charles Power
