2024 ATH Kam Mikell talks early favorites, playing multiple positions
Statesboro (Ga.) three-star athlete Kam Mikell is dynamic in multiple sports. He is an outfielder in baseball and a guard in basketball. He runs the 100-meter-dash in 10.5 seconds and the 200-meter-dash in 21.5 seconds. Additionally, he can play multiple positions on the football field.
Mikell started out playing quarterback, but now can line up at wide receiver and in the secondary. When the 6-foot-2, 180 pound prospect camped at Florida State, Georgia and Kentucky this summer, the Bulldogs and Wildcats had him play defensive back, while the Seminoles watched him perform at wideout.
“It was a learning experience because I have to get better at my craft,” Mikell told On3. “There’s things to learn. It was just fun to know new things and learn it.”

Mikell talks interest in Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Bulldogs have a commanding lead to land Mikell’s commitment at 64.7%. Earning an offer from the in-state school was significant for Mikell, the No. 308 overall prospect and No. 27 athlete in the 2024 On3 Consensus.
“That’s big,” Mikell said. “I’m glad. I’m grateful for it. I just like it and I’m going to hope I can get up there for a game.”
When Mikell took an unofficial visit to the Bulldogs on June 25, it was his first trip to Athens. He enjoyed seeing the campus and learning more about the program, who was also hosting multiple players on official visits.
For Mikell, Georgia’s camp was the highest of the visit. Defensive backs coach Fran Brown made an immediate impression on the athlete. According to Mikell, Brown told him that he “was going to make me the best player in Georgia at (defensive back.)”
“Up there, it seems like they don’t play (around),” Mikell said. “It’s workout all the time.”
In addition to Georgia, Kentucky is high on Mikell’s list. During his visit to Lexington, he spent time with defensive backs coach Chris Collins. Like Brown, Mikell felt Collins felt coached him well and shared new lessons about the position. Additionally, the Wildcats’ campus stood out to the three-star.

“It was nice to look at the whole thing,” Mikell said. “We went out and saw the whole locker room, the cold and hot tub. We looked at the baseball field. That was nice, how it was built. It’s brand-new.”
Another program interested in Mikell is South Carolina. While he doesn’t know too much about the Gamecocks, he believes the program is a good team. Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray offered Mikell.
“I feel like he’s a good coach,” Mikell said of Gray. “We were talking on the phone. I feel like I can get a good connection with him.”
Mikell knows what he is looking for during the recruiting process
Despite Mikell’s versatility on the field, he believes he will end up playing wide receiver or defensive back in college. While he is talented under center, Mikell thinks his talent at those two positions will transition better on the next level.
Mikell still has a long way to go in his recruiting process. As a result, he hasn’t decided on where he will take his talents, especially since offers are still rolling in. However, Georgia and Kentucky are getting a close look from him because “they felt like the most home” when they offered.
Additionally, Mikell has an idea of what he is looking for in a school.
“I want to play early in college so I can get my looks for the next level,” Mikell said. “I like my grades. I want good classes and a good school, academic school. I also want connections with people. I want to be welcomed right when I get there, so I want to feel like it’s family.”
