The 2024 Big Ten Baseball Tournament continued Saturday morning with Indiana and Nebraska in the first semifinal game of the day.

The Hoosiers got it started with Nick Mitchell driving in a run on a double in first inning. Indiana led the Huskers 1-0 after the first frame.

In the third, the scoring continued. Josh Caron hit a three-run home run to take the lead for Nebraska. But, the Hoosiers got one back to make it 3-2 in the bottom half as Brock Tibbitts hit a sacrifice fly.

Nebraska’s Will Walsh was dialed in though, keeping zeroes on the board through the seventh inning and kept the Huskers in front of Indiana, 3-2, in the Big Ten semifinal.

Caron wanted back in on the action as he hit a one-out moonshot of a home run in the top of the eighth to extend Nebraska’s lead 4-2.

Walsh ended up going the distance on the mound and Nebraska got a second date with Indiana later Saturday night in the Big Ten semfinals

Michigan and Penn State were next in the second Big Ten semifinal Saturday afternoon. After three scoreless innings, Penn State struck first in the top of the fourth and led 3-0.

Cole Caruso got one back for the Wolverines in the bottom of the sixth, grounding out to first and scoring Stephen Hrustich, making it 3-1. Then, Kyle Dernedde doubled down the left field line and drove in two runs later in the inning, tying the game 3-3.

The Wolverines and Nittany Lions traded some more runs, going to extra innings 5-5 when Adam Cecere blasted a go-ahead, two-run home run. A solo shot from Michigan’s Mitch Voit in the bottom of the 10th made it 7-6, but Penn State got the win to advance to a first-ever Big Ten Tournament championship.

In the final game of the day, Nebraska clobbered Indiana, 10-4, in a game that wasn’t close most of the way. The Cornhuskers got up 3-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a bases-clearing triple from Josh Overbeek and never trailed, piling on runs and advancing to the Big Ten Championship game on Sunday.
