While the College World Series is in full swing in Omaha, so is college baseball’s transfer portal. Some big names have entered in recent weeks, with some already finding new homes.

Players have until Tuesday, July 2 to enter their name into the portal during this cycle. More will enter following the conclusion of the 2024 season, but it’s time to rank the ten best players to enter so far.

Between some powerful sluggers and high powered arms, there’s no shortage of talent in college baseball’s transfer portal. Last season we saw stars such as Braden Montgomery, Chase Burns and Billy Amick find new homes. While there aren’t as many top-end names so far this season, that doesn’t mean there won’t be later on.

Still, teams are undoubtedly very intrigued by the top players in this year’s transfer portal. Here’s how we rank the top ten.

1. Gavin Kash, 1B, Texas Tech

Transfer Destination: TBD
Class: Junior
2024 Stats: .300 AVG, 15 HR, 51 RBI, 17 doubles

This is the second time that Gavin Kash has entered college baseball’s transfer portal, and he’s undoubtedly one of the top players available this time around. Though he wasn’t as productive as he was in 2023 where he hit .326 with 26 home runs, he still had a good year in 2024 hitting .300 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI. In his two years at Texas Tech, Kash hit .313 with 41 home runs.

2. Zach Root, LHP, East Carolina

Transfer Destination: TBD
Class: Sophomore
2024 Stats: 13 appearances (12 starts), 68.1 innings, 3.56 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 76 strikeouts, 21 walks

When it comes to pitching, it’s tough to look past Zach Root in this year’s cycle. After splitting time between the bullpen and rotation as a freshman in 2023, Root entered the ECU rotation as the Saturday starter this year and broke out. He was 6-2 on the year and was lights out at the start of the year. Root did miss time down the stretch, but he returned in the postseason. With possible first-round MLB Draft potential, Root is heavily coveted on the transfer market right now.

3. Gavin Kilen, SS, Louisville

Transfer Destination: TBD
Class: Sophomore
2024 Stats: .330 AVG, 9 HR, 41 RBI, 23 doubles

Former Louisville shortstop Gavin Kilen is one of the most proven shortstops available in the portal so far. After hitting .265 as a freshman in 2023, he took a massive step forward in 2024 hitting .330 with 9 homers and 41 RBI. He struck out just 22 times in 215 at-bats. Kilen has shown that he can produce in the ACC, and he will have a long line of suitors in the portal.

4. Blake Cyr, LF/2B, Miami

Transfer Destination: Florida
Class: Sophomore
2024 Stats: .284 AVG, 7 HR, 21 RBI

Blake Cyr is our highest-rated transfer in college baseball to have already found a home through the portal. He is staying in-state, going from Miami to Florida. 2023 was Cyr’s big year, as he hit .305 with a 1.047 OPS, 17 home runs, 12 doubles and 63 RBI as a freshman. He missed significant time this season due to injury, and hit .284 with seven home runs and 21 RBI. Still, he has shown he can produce at a high level and he’ll look to return to that level with the Gators.

5. Landon Beidelschies, LHP, Ohio State

Transfer Destination: TBD
Class: Sophomore
2024 Stats: 15 appearances (all starts), 84.2 innings, 4.15 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 91 strikeouts, 31 walks

After pitching mostly out of the bullpen as a freshman in 2023, Landon Beidelschies became an anchor in Ohio State’s rotation in 2024. He tossed over 80 innings with 91 strikeouts, and opponents hit .231 against him. He also tallied seven saves as a freshman in 2023, and he is likely to become a key piece of someone’s rotation next season.

Transfer Destination: Alabama
Class: Sophomore
2024 Stats: .331 AVG, 8 HR, 32 RBI, 7 doubles

Jason Torres is the second Miami transfer in our rankings, and he’s also the second to have already found a new team in the college baseball portal. Torres started off hot in 37 at-bats as a freshman in 2023, hitting .459 with three homers and 11 RBI. He was extremely productive in 2024 as well, hitting .331 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs to go along with seven doubles in 39 games. He figures to play a major role for Alabama in 2025, and should instantly slide into the middle of the lineup.

7. Brady Neal, C, LSU

Transfer Destination: TBD
Class: Sophomore
2024 Stats: .276 AVG, 9 HR, 31 RBI, 8 doubles

Brady Neal just entered the transfer portal on Monday, and he instantly jumped into the top ten of our rankings. In 116 at-bats at LSU this season, he was very productive, hitting .276 with nine homers, 31 RBI, eight doubles and he had an OPS of .986. Neal will have a long list of suitors in the portal as the most prominent catcher to enter so far. And he is a big loss for LSU as well.

8. Luis Hernandez, 1B, Indiana State

Transfer Destination: LSU
Class: Junior
2024 Stats: .359 AVG, 23 HR, 76 RBI, 14 doubles

While LSU lost Neal in the transfer portal, they also added one of college baseball’s best hitters in Indiana State transfer Luis Hernandez. He spent three years at Indiana State, but 2024 was his best season yet. In 248 at-bats, Hernandez hit .359 with 23 homers and 76 RBI. He also had 14 doubles and finished with an impressive 1.114 OPS. This is a bat that will instantly insert into the middle of LSU’s lineup, and he has some positional versatility as well as he’s played first base and catcher in the past.

9. Deven Sheerin, RHP, Mount St. Mary’s

Transfer Destination: LSU
Class: Freshman
2024 Stats: 18 appearances (2 starts), 70 innings, 4.76 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 109 strikeouts, 32 walks

Another LSU portal addition has made the list, this time coming on the mound in Mount St. Mary’s transfer Deven Sheerin. As a freshman in 2024, he showcased electric stuff on the mound led by a fastball that sits in the mid-to-upper 90s that has touched 97. Though he primarily pitched out of the bullpen this season, he could become a pivotal piece of LSU’s pitching staff whether it be through the bullpen or rotation. Either way, LSU is getting a tremendous talent that projects to get even better as he develops.

10. Mason Koch, RHP, Creighton

Transfer Destination: Auburn
Class: Sophomore
2024 Stats: 25 appearances (0 starts), 38.1 innings, 3.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 60 strikeouts, 17 walks

Mason Koch has pitched in 33 games in two years at Creighton, all out of the bullpen. He’s now heading to Auburn as an intriguing addition out of the portal. In just 38.1 innings in 2024, Koch struck out 60 batters with just 17 walks. His fastball is a lively one, sitting mostly mid 90s while touching up to 96. He figures to play a pivotal role for Auburn on the mound, either in the rotation or as a piece of its weekend rotation.
