Kansas City (Mo.) St. Pius X EDGE Jayshawn Ross grew up following the Oregon Ducks. The uniforms and the flare around the Pac-12 program had his attention.

But as he got older and moved into high school, schools in the SEC started to catch his attention. The No. 195 prospect in the On3 Consensus likes the style of play and the talent that comes out of the SEC.

“The SEC is where the dogs are at,” Ross told On3. “The biggest names play in the SEC. Everyone is made in that conference. They play hard, it is tough in the SEC, and I love how they work. I love how they play in the SEC and that is probably where I am going to end up.”

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound four-star is ready to get out this summer and take a look at a handful of those programs.

Ross would like to check out Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, and Georgia this summer. He already has an offer from the Razorbacks and the others could pull the trigger soon.

“Alabama, Florida, and Georgia are showing interest and they want to get me on campus. I am ready to get out there and meet the coaches and see what it is like.”

Michigan and Minnesota recently offered Ross. Kansas State offered first last summer. The No. 12 EDGE in the country is approaching 20 offers as he closes out his sophomore year.

He already knows what he is looking for in a school as he prepares for a busy summer on the road.

“I am looking to build a relationship with the defensive line coaches,” Ross said. “That is who I am going to be working with and spending a lot of time around, so that is very important. I am not worried about the campus or the facilities, but I am looking for coaching.

“The biggest part of my recruitment will be about the defensive line coach. He is a big part of my future, so I am looking for a coach that pushes me beyond my limits and gets me to that next level.”

Ross wants to play for a coach that has the same attitude as him.

“As a player, whoever gets me is going to get the best of the best. I am going to go out and outwork anyone that is in front of me. I am going to give it my all for the coach I play for.”
