Kayvaun Mulready, a four-star point guard in the 2024 class, is down to four schools: Maryland, Marquette, Providence, and UConn.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect out of Worcester (MA) Academy has taken one official visit to Marquette but has seen Maryland, Providence, and UConn each play live. He currently does not have a timetable for a commitment.

In addition to the four schools on Mulready’s list, he also received offers from Texas A&M, Penn State, Xavier, Virginia Tech, Washington, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Wake Forest, and others.

Mulready ranks as the No. 85 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).

Mulready talks finalists

Maryland: “I enjoy watching them, they have a very high-intensity play style. The coaches have been showing love, and flew out to watch me play open runs early in the morning. They’re also having a good season so far. The first game I witnessed was them playing against St. Louis and going crazy.”

Marquette: “They have a high standard on defense; it’s their first priority and they know their offense will come with it. They roll with a bunch of young guys and trust their players. They showed me great hospitality when I went on my visit there. Coaching staff are great people. Fit my play style.”

Providence: “Coach (Ed) Cooley is a phenomenal coach, but he’s even a better person off the court. We barely talk about basketball and our conversations aren’t generic. Coaching staff are great people. Their personal trainers and equipment for rehab are very good. One of the best fan bases I’ve witnessed in person. Fit my play style. One of the first schools to show a lot of interest.”

UConn: “Obviously everybody knows UConn is having an incredible season so far, undefeated as we speak. Just went to the game against Villanova, incredible fan base. Coaching staff has been showing love recently, and Hurley likes to win. Close friend Alex Karaban is on the team and it’s obvious he loves the place, tells me all about it. They play hard defense and are always rattling opponents.”

Mulready on what he’s looking for in a school

“I want to play in a program that cares for the little stuff,” Mulready said in a previous interview with On3. “Diving on the ground, talking, leadership, rebounding. I’m not going to a school for a big name, but I’ll go to a school where I fit in and can play to the best of my abilities. I can play the one through the four, and I like doing that. So that is what I mean by fitting in, being able to do what it takes to help my team win.

“I’ll be looking at the education. Obviously, I’m a basketball player, but everyone has to have a plan B, so the education has to be in place. I’m focused on coming out in the 2024 class, and I’m not really going to rush things right now. I’m going to focus on this season and let the recruiting stuff come to me.”

Scouting Summary

“Kayvaun Mulready is a strong guard,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “He plays a powerful game with some explosion. Mulready is a very good defender. He plays with toughness and instincts, both on and off the ball. He is able to turn defense into offense quickly, especially in the passing lanes. Offensively, he plays in straight lines and attacks the paint. Would like to see him develop the jump shot and create some counters off the bounce in the half-court. Mulready is a good rebounder and has no issues sticking his nose in there and doing the tough guy stuff. There is some positional versatility. Mom played college basketball.”
