A month after Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy, the early odds are out for the 2024 award. Three quarterbacks sit atop the board as a three-way tie for the favorite just a few days before the 2023 national championship, according to FanDuel.

The expectation is Quinn Ewers will return to Texas next season, and that decision would make him one of the initial favorites to win the Heisman. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe both announced their returns and are tied with Ewers for the best odds to win the award.

The early list of Heisman Trophy odds also includes some big-time transfers, meaning 2024 could be an interesting year for quarterback play and contenders for college football’s most prestigious honor.

Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas — +750

Quinn Ewers took a big step forward in 2023, helping lead Texas to its first conference title since 2009 with his 3,479 passing yards and 22 touchdowns. The Longhorns made it to the College Football Playoff for the first time, but came up short in the Sugar Bowl against Washington.

All signs point toward Ewers returning to Austin for one more season. That would give him one more year of eligibility before heading to the NFL Draft, and he would do so after this year’s loaded quarterback class.

Carson Beck, QB, Georgia — +750

Carson Beck settled in well as Georgia’s starting quarterback as he led the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship. He announced his decision to come back prior to the Orange Bowl, meaning UGA has some stability at quarterback in 2024.

Beck had a big year after taking over as QB1, throwing for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns. Despite missing out on the CFP this year, expectations will be high at Georgia in 2024 as Beck enters the year as a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama — +750

After an up-and-down start to the 2023 season, Jalen Milroe turned on the jets — almost literally, with his dual-threat ability — to lead Alabama to the College Football Playoff. He will also be back in 2024 after finishing in the top 10 of Heisman Trophy voting thanks to his strong finish.

Milroe threw for 2,834 yards, ran for 531 yards and totaled 35 touchdowns with both his arm and his legs. Although he struggled in the Rose Bowl against Michigan, Milroe will try to maintain the momentum he built in 2023 to lead Alabama through the new-look SEC next season.

Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon — +1000

One of the highest-profile transfers during this transfer portal cycle, Dillon Gabriel is taking his talents to Oregon. He’ll replace Bo Nix, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist this year, and will try to make sure the Ducks are represented in New York again in 2024 as they move to the Big Ten.

Gabriel had a big year with Oklahoma this past season as he threw for 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns while adding 373 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He arrives in Oregon as the No. 5-ranked transfer in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings and No. 2 quarterback behind Dante Moore, who’s joining him in Eugene.

Nico Iamaleava, QB, Tennessee — +1800

One of the young stars put on a show in his first career start in the Citrus Bowl. Now, Nico Iamaleava is seen as a potential candidate for the 2024 Heisman Trophy as he takes the reins at Tennessee.

Iamaleava had a huge game against a tough Iowa defense in the bowl game, totaling four touchdowns — three rushing and one passing — as he threw for 151 yards to earn the game’s offensive MVP award. He’ll enter next season as the likely starter on Rocky Top, and the excitement is building for On3’s top 2023 recruit.

Jackson Arnold, QB, Oklahoma — +1800

After the departure of Dillon Gabriel, it sure looks like it’ll be Jackson Arnold’s time at Oklahoma. His first start in the Alamo Bowl got off to a bit of a rocky start, but the former highly touted recruit will look to bounce back as he enters 2024 as the starter.

Arnold threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns against Arizona, but he also threw three interceptions and lost a fumble. Offensive line issues were a big part of his struggles, but the oddsmakers think he’ll bounce back well and try to become a Heisman Trophy contender in 2024.

Conner Weigman, QB, Texas A&M — +1800

Conner Weigman looked strong to start the year for Texas A&M under new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. However, his year ended early because of an injury — and he’ll be thrown into a new scheme again under incoming OC Collin Klein and head coach Mike Elko.

In four games prior to his injury against Auburn, Weigman threw for 979 yards and eight touchdowns. He’ll now look to get a full season under his belt, and it’s safe to say expectations will be high in Texas A&M as Elko takes over.

J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan — +1800

At one point in 2023, J.J. McCarthy was the Heisman Trophy favorite. He slipped down the board as the year went on, though — but should he come back to Michigan in 2024, he’ll likely get similar hype.

McCarthy and the Wolverines are currently preparing for the national championship against Washington, and he’s been a steady hand this year with 2,851 passing yards and 22 touchdowns along with 171 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The NFL route is still an option for McCarthy if he wants, but a return to Ann Arbor would be a big boost for Michigan and his Heisman hopes.
