Trentyn Flowers has blown up. One of the top wings in the 2024 class has gotten bigger and stronger over the past year. That development has shown on the court.

“I shoot the ball well, and I’m a good passer,” Flowers told On3 Sports. “I can defend one through five, handle the ball, get to the rack, and I am very athletic. Every part of the game I do pretty well; it is just about fine-tuning it. I’ve grown about three or four inches over the last year and have gotten way more athletic, which has helped me on the defensive end. I hear I play like a combination of Penny Hardaway, Jayson Tatum, and Kevin Durant, so really, I just play like myself. I try to take pieces from everyone, though, and put it into my game.”

The 6-foot-7 sophomore started the season at Huntington (W.V.) Prep and transferred to Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon in early January. Coaches have taken notice as well. Trentyn Flowers spoke exclusively with On3 Sports about his recruitment.

“I hear from Xavier, Cincinnati, Memphis, Kansas, Georgetown – that’s family right there – we hear from a lot of schools. Southern Cal and Tennessee recently offered. I have visited Georgetown, Xavier, and Cincinnati. I am going to try and go see UNC soon, LSU maybe too, they just offered.”

Flowers talks recruitment

Xavier: “Head coach Travis (Steele) is a great coach. We keep up with coach Jonas (Hayes); that’s my guy. They have a good program run a great offense. I really like the school.”

Cincinnati: “Head coach Wes Miller is over there now. He brought coach Chad Dollar and Andre Morgan with him there. They have a great coaching staff with nice facilities. I really like the way they play, and coach Miller’s energy is amazing.”

Georgetown: “I took an unofficial visit up there recently. I met with head coach Patrick Ewing and coach Akbar (Waheed). I really liked the video they showed of the Georgetown legacy and the late John Thompson.”

Southern Cal: “Coach Mobley is a great coach over there. Obviously, with his two sons (Evan and Isaiah). They like a lot of versatility and put out great forwards. It is a good program, and it could be a good fit. I like the school.”

Tennessee: “That is ‘wing u.’ They just had Keon Johnson, Jaden Springer get drafted, all those guys. They have been putting out draft picks over the last couple of years. Head coach Rick Barnes coached Kevin Durant; it’s a good program.”

LSU: “They love my game, feel I can do anything on the floor, and they really want me to go to school there.”

UNC: “They have not offered yet, but It is a great program, a blue blood. It is a Jordan school. They just got a new coach too, so I want to go see what they’re all about.”

“North Carolina State and Duke recently got in touch with us. I am not sure if they are about to offer or not, a few more too. I grew up a fan of Duke and Georgia.”

Flower’s take

“I want to make sure they play me the right way. I want to go somewhere that I am going to play a lot. Building a relationship with the coach, I’m looking for a family environment, a coach who will take the time to get to know me. Play for a coach who has good character and can build a strong relationship. Everything is relationship-based with me.

“My dad played overseas in Italy; he played at Sacramento State. My mom was a gymnast, she didn’t do it in college, but she is pretty athletic.”

On3’s take

Trentyn Flower is an explosive and rangy wing prospect. He fills the lanes aggressively in transition and finishes high above the rim. Flowers will knock down open threes with his feet set. He is comfortable handling the ball in open spaces. Flowers has all the tools, and with his newfound growth spurt, he will need to continue tightening his game and growing into his frame. There is a lot of upside here and someone to track at the highest levels.
