Baltimore Archbishop Spalding quarterback Malik Washington has around 20 offers and the four-star junior is ready to start focusing on a smaller group of schools. The No. 243 prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings has narrowed his list to half a dozen schools and those are Maryland, Oregon, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

“Most of these schools have been around for a while and I have relationships with the staffs,” Washington told On3. “I have visited all except for Syracuse and Texas A&M, so I have been out to most of the schools and all six are trending in the right direction.”

The old staff in College Station targeted Washington. The new staff has reached out recently. Syracuse has a new staff and Fran Brown and the Orange have jumped in this race.

Washington is ready to move forward with his recruitment.

“I will probably visit one or two schools in January, but I haven’t set any up yet. In the spring, I want to take my official visits, then commit before my senior season.

“I will definitely take my official visits before I commit to a school. Once I commit, I want to be committed and not visit any other schools. The official visits will be important because I just want to see what coaches are honest with me, where I am on their board and just see how coaches feel about me.”

Washington talks his top schools

MARYLAND: “The location is nice. Maryland is right down the street where my family and friends can see me at any time. The program is going in the right direction and the fan base is coming around too. The fans make the games fun to go to and I have good relationships with the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator.”

PENN STATE: “It is about the atmosphere with Penn State. I have been there multiple times and they might have the best fan base of all the schools on my list. I was there for the Michigan game and the fans are always loud. I have a great relationship with Danny O’Brien too.”

OREGON: “I was at Oregon over the summer for camp and I really liked the town. Eugene is a great college town. I like the area, the food and the people. Their facilities are crazy too. They have everything you need.”

VIRGINIA TECH: “Blacksburg is a real college town. All of the people around Blacksburg love the Hokies. It is always sold out, the fans are great and I have a good relationship with Coach Tyler Bowen.”

TEXAS A&M: “Texas A&M always has a good program. My favorite quarterback is Johnny Manziel, so I have been watching them for a while. I know it is a new staff, so I want to see what they are like and get down there for a visit.”

SYRACUSE: “Syracuse is one of the more recent offers and they have a new staff, so I want to learn more about them. I haven’t been there and I don’t know too much yet, but I am interested in them.”
