Ironton (Ohio) three-star cornerback Josh Johnson has decommitted from Louisville, he announced on Wednesday morning.

He was pledged to the Cardinals since June 14. Johnson also holds Power Four offers from the likes of Penn State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Michigan State, Kentucky and Iowa.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is the No. 946 overall prospect and No. 82 CB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 35 player in Ohio.

After a lot of reconsideration, praying and talking with my family and coaches I believe it would be in my
best interest to decommit from the University of Louisville,” Johnson wrote announcing his decision on X. “Thank you Coach Brohm and the whole Louisville coaching staff for believing in me. Please respect my decision.”

Johnson is coming off a visit to Penn State over the weekend. “They really see me as a defensive player who they can put out there and make plays,” he told BWI of the Nittany Lions’ interest.

Cardinals lose piece to 2025 class

Johnson was one of just two listed defensive back commits in Jeff Brohm’s 2025 class. With his decommitment, Louisville now has just 12 pledges in the mix this cycle and its class ranks No. 62 in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. That’s the second lowest-ranked class in the ACC, ahead of just California.

Highland Home (Ala.) four-star EDGE C.J. May is currently the only blue-chipper in the class, checking in as the No. 307 overall prospect and No. 31 EDGE in the nation.

“Louisville’s one of the other schools I’ve had my eye on as a kid. Now having the opportunity to explore it. Coach (Mark) Hagen does a great job of recruiting me, then I’ve got all the other coaches around it,” May said of Louisville ahead of his commitment this summer. “Coach (Jeff) Brohm also does a fantastic job of recruiting me. His son, Brady, also has a tight relationship with me. We text and stuff every day. It’s a nice city, nice place. I feel like I’d be comfortable playing there.”

Cincinnati North Oldham three-star safety Micah Rice is now the lone DB in the Cards’ 2025 class. Other top commits in the fold include: Oxford (Ala.) three-star quarterback Mason Mims, Indianapolis Warren Central three-star EDGE Tyrone Burrus, Dacula (Ga.) Buford three-star wide receiver Jordan Allen, Palmetto (Fla.) three-star linebacker Caleb Matelau and Goshen (Ky.) North Oldham three-star offensive tackle Gradey Anthony.
