Round 1 of 2025 NCAA Tournament in the books
Friday’s schedule of Round of 64 games featured some exciting matchups, but most of the results were expected. Only three upsets took place throughout the day.
The first game of the day saw a No. 9 seed take down a No. 8 seed. Baylor fought off a late Mississippi State charge to defeat the Bulldogs and head to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bears will take on Duke, which cruised past Mount St. Mary’s in a first-round game that saw the return of Cooper Flagg from injury.
New Mexico also held on to defeat Marquette to give the Mountain West another March Madness win. One of those was Colorado State, which took down Memphis. The Rams trailed at halftime, but rallied – thanks in large part to three-point success – to complete the comeback, defeating the Tigers and advancing to the second round.
Now, it’s on to the Round of 32 with games on both Saturday and Sunday. A spot in the Sweet Sixteen will await as the storylines – and stakes – continue to grow.
