2025 QB Chase Herbstreit commits to Michigan Wolverines
Cincinnati St. Xavier three-star quarterback Chase Herbstreit has committed to the Michigan Wolverines, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Herbstreit, the son of ESPN analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, is ranked as a three-star prospect and No. 128 quarterback in the class by On3.
This season for St. X, Herbstreit had a strong senior campaign throwing for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns, while rushing for 649 yards and eight scores on the ground.
Back in October, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power tabbed Herbstreit as a 2025 quarterback prospect who could outplay his recruitment:

“Chase Herbstreit has shown steady progress in his senior year at Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier. The son of former Ohio State quarterback and long-time ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, has led St. X to a 7-3 record while accounting for over 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder looks to have a strong grasp on the pro-style offensive scheme and is comfortable working from under center. He’s added arm strength and displays good zip on intermediate passes.
“We’ve also seen Herbstreit become more of a run threat as a senior. He’s effective in avoiding pass rushers and is more than capable of picking up chunks of yardage as a scrambler and on designed runs. The level of improvement and the general competitive nature Herbstreit shows has us feeling he will maximize his talent.”
Herbstreit joins loaded Wolverines class
The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder is the second quarterback in the class for Sherrone Moore and Co., joining Five-Star Plus+ passer and No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood.
The latter flipped from LSU last month before signing with the Wolverines on the first day of the Early Signing Period this week. In addition to Underwood, Michigan has commitments from five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola, top-60 defensive line prospect Nate Marshall, potential On3 five-star cornerback Shamari Earls, and top-100 prospects Andrew Marsh and Kainoa Winston, among others.
With 22 total commitments, U-M has the No. 9 class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
