2026 4-star DB J'Zavien Currence commits to South Carolina
Rock Hill (S.C.) 2026 four-star safety J’Zavien Currence has committed to South Carolina, he announced Thursday afternoon.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Currence has visited Columbia several times, including a handful of trips since this spring.
“I was at South Carolina a couple of times this spring and I always have a good time down there,” Currence told On3 in May. “I have visited South Carolina over 10 times and Coach Shane Beamer is building something special down there.
“The culture at South Carolina is family-oriented and the coaches are great people. Coach Beamer is a great head coach and he has the right people in the right place. They are all real and true to who they are. That coaching staff shows the love and they really make me feel important.”

Cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray has been Currence’s lead recruiter.
“Coach Gray coaches all of the defensive backs at South Carolina,” Currence said. “He is a smart coach who is not afraid to coach his guys tough and call it like it is. Coach Gray is real all of the time, he doesn’t change it up in front of different people and he is a real coach that does a great job. We have a great relationship already.”
Currence is the No. 103 overall prospect in the 2026 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 10 safety and top-ranked player from South Carolina in the class.
On3 ranks Currence No. 94 nationally and No. 9 among safeties in the 2026 On300.
