San Antonio (Texas) Steele four-star running back Jonathan Hatton Jr. committed to Oklahoma on Oct. 3, 2023. Hatton was committed to the Sooners for more than a year, but after adding new offers, building new relationships and visiting numerous schools, he has backed off that pledge.

“I’ve been thinking about this for a little while, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t rush my decision,” Hatton told On3. “The main reason I decommitted was to make sure I’m putting myself in the best possible position to be successful.”

Hatton plans to take his time with the recruiting process moving forward.

“I plan on taking some visits, but only to schools where I’m a real priority, not to a place that views me as just another number.

“I’ll be making my announcement around spring/summer next year because I’m a December guy.”

Oklahoma will remain in the race. Hatton’s connection with Demarco Murray is a big reason why. The Sooners will compete with numerous other schools. One is Texas A&M. Hatton was in College Station for the third time

“I’m going to go through the process, but out of my top schools is Texas A&M. “From coach Elko to coach Klein and of course Coach Troop, they have set the bar high and made it clear what the plan is for me in what they are building.

“Wherever I go, I just have to come in and work my butt off and compete. That is what my dad and mom have always instilled in me anyway.”

Hatton Jr. has to games in College Station to see the Aggies play Notre DameMissouri and Texas this season. In addition to the Aggies, AlabamaOhio State and Tennessee are pursuing the 5-foot-11.5, 195-pound tailback.

He is the No. 44 overall prospect and No. 2 running back in the 2026 On300.
