Buford (Ga.) safety Nassir McCoy is on the back end of his sophomore year and he already has 20 offers. The 6-foot, 180-pound 2026 prospect has been offered by schools like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon and Tennessee.

In the fall, he attended games in Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Athens and Knoxville. Now he is set to hit the road this spring.

“I am visiting Auburn on March 16, Alabama on March 23, Ohio State on March 30, Tennessee on April 6, LSU on April 12, Georgia on April 13, Texas on April 20 and Oregon on April 27,” McCoy told On3.

It will be his first time seeing the Buckeyes, Tigers and Longhorns. He has already visited Auburn three times, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee twice and Texas once.

He is ready to get a feel for the culture at each program.

“I’m definitely looking to see the way I’m treated as soon as I enter each campus. I want to see the way they can take care of the little things in my recruitment, like making sure my family is good and the way the players are cared for, as in health, mentally, physically and emotionally.”

It is early in the process for McCoy, but schools “Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Auburn, Oregon, Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, Miami and Florida” are on his radar at this stage.

McCoy is cousins with 2024 Five-star Plus+ safety KJ Bolden, a Georgia signee.

Alabama’s development of defensive backs stands out to McCoy

Alabama offered McCoy early in 2024. Returning to his offer last week, McCoy shared what his reaction was when he received the good news.

“It was a great offer,” McCoy told BamaOnline.com in an interview last month. “Alabama being the dynasty that they are, it’s a great opportunity to be a part of a dynasty like that. My reaction was like everybody else’s — It’s Alabama.”

McCoy went on to bring up the dynasty that Nick Saban built during his 17 seasons with Alabama. One of the hallmarks of his tenure was Saban’s development of players in the secondary for the next level.

“The player production of their DBs has been amazing,” McCoy said. “I look up to most of the guys that they’ve produced in the NFL, so that’s another thing. Definitely, for sure, Kool-Aid McKinstry.”

Georgia has McCoy’s attention early

McCoy grew up a Georgia fan. McCoy also knows the history of Georgia well. He also heard stories of Herschel Walker during his youth from his family.

“Getting an offer from my favorite college football team and my hometown team was a good experience,” McCoy told DawgsHQ last fall. “It’s really just the history of Georgia. I grew up watching Sony Michel. It’s the history of Georgia.”

The current configuration of Georgia has also made some history as well. The Bulldogs have won back-to-back national championships. They are unbeaten and sitting atop the AP poll with five games remaining in 2023.

McCoy admits the winning happening at Georgia is playing a big role in how he sees Georgia as a potential destination for himself.

“That’s playing a lot in my head right now, they’re a bit of a dynasty right now,” McCoy said.
