2027 CB Kenton Dopson commits to Miami: ‘This is my hometown team’

Miami (Fla.) Norland cornerback Kenton Dopson holds offers from close to 30 schools. Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville and Syracuse all made him feel like a priority, but the feeling he always had at Miami was different.
The 6-foot, 175-pound elite defender has committed to the Hurricanes.
“I have visited Miami a lot and they always made me feel at home,” Dopson told On3. “They have always been up there for me. The coaches are great, the energy is good and it is close to home.”
Dopson is already very familiar with Coral Gables, but he plans to get back multiple times in the coming weeks. It is a place where he feels he can grow and develop.
“Coach Cristobal is bringing back the old-school Miami. They have a great history and they know how to develop players. I like the staff a lot and how they love to compete.”

Mario Cristobal, Zac Etheridge, Will Harris, Frank Tucker and other staffers are heavily involved with Dopson’s recruitment. He saw Etheridge and Harris in action at practice last week, he knows about the history of the Hurricanes and now he gets to be a part of it.
“A lot of great players come from Miami and play South Florida football,” Dopson said. “It doesn’t get any better than that. This is my hometown team. It is a school I know a lot about.”
Dopson is the first defensive commit, but second overall commit for Miami in the 2027 class. He joins wide receiver Ah’mari Stevens.
