2027 Top-10 overall recruit Marcus Spears Jr. set to visit SMU

Marcus Spears Jr., one of the top prospects in all of the 2027 class, will be taking an unofficial visit to SMU on Saturday, a source told On3. The 6-foot-7 small forward out of Dynamic Prep (Dallas, TX) will be in attendance to see the Mustangs take on No. 22-ranked Clemson.
The sophomore holds an offer from SMU, along with Texas, Stanford, LSU, and Oklahoma State.
SMU is having a strong season, with an overall record of 20-6. The Mustangs are ranked fourth in the ACC, in their first year in the league.
Spears on SMU
In a previous interview with On3’s Jamie Shaw, Marcus Spears Jr. briefly discussed SMU.
“I don’t know too, too much about SMU yet, just from what it looks like though Coach (Andy) Enfield is building something. And they’re recruiting well. What he’s got coming in next year, it’ll be fun to watch how they’re going to do.”
What he’s looking for in a school
Spears is likely a ways away from a commitment, but he does know what he wants in a future college program.

“I want to play for a coach that I know will tell me the truth. At the end of the day, I want to get to the league, so I want to play for a coach that will help me get there. I’m a system player, so I want to play for a coach who runs a good system.
“But I also want to go to a school where I know I can develop my game. Be able to go and get a bucket if the team needs one.”
