'23 Asa Thomas is drawing coaches and closing in on visits
Asa Thomas had a contingent of college coaches following him in Indianapolis for Session 1 of the UAA Circuit. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 11 points, and five rebounds on two made threes per game.
“My game is versatile, Thomas told On3. “I can bring the ball up and create, shoot it, play on the wing, play inside. I just do whatever it takes to get the win. I can see the work I’ve put in the weight room; I’m getting to the hole more and consistently finishing at the rim. I watch a lot of Klay Thompson and Joe Wieskamp, how they carry themselves and make winning plays outside of just shooting.”
He helped lead his Lake Forest (IL) HIgh team to a 27-7 record. On3 caught up with Asa Thomas during the UAA stop to see where he is at in his recruitment.
Thomas talks recruitment
“I have not taken any official visits yet,” Thomas said. “I don’t have any dates set. I want to set one with Wisconsin, but that date isn’t set. I have taken some unofficials, though. I went to Wisconsin, Ohio State, Iowa, and Northwestern in the fall. I am talking a lot of Michigan and Stanford, they haven’t offered, but we’ll see with them.”

Thomas talks fit
“I am looking for a good academic fit and athletic fit,” Thomas said. “How I would look in the school’s system, how they would feature me. And I am going to pay attention to how I would fit in with the guys on the team.
“I am not sure exactly what type of system would fit me best. That is something I am going to dive into in this process. But I have played best so far on teams with a lot of ball movement who don’t turn the ball over and use their shooters to open things up.”
Asa Thomas has good size with a sturdy frame. You see the skill-set. He can pass, shoot, and handle in the half and full court. He also brings a toughness to the game with his willingness to fight on the boards. The athleticism will be a question, both laterally and vertically. But he has an understanding of angles and good length. He will need to be a system fit a tweener forward, but players in his archetype have had success at the high major level.
