'23 Taylor Bol Bowen says Duke, UConn, Providence are prioritizing
Taylor Bol Bowen is the no. 25 player in On3’s updated 2023 On3 Consensus, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four major recruiting media services. The 6-foot-9 junior at Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy brings a unique style to the wing position.
“My best thing is my versatility,” Bol Bowen told On3. “There is not one thing on the court I can’t do; whether it be initiating offense or posting up or scoring on guards down low – and everything in between. This season I have been working on attacking different spots on the floor, going at guards and forwards. I watch how guys like Pascal Siakim utilize their length to create mismatches.”
College programs started prioritizing him last summer, playing with the Expressions on Nike’s 16u EYBL circuit. On3 caught up with Taylor Bol Bowen at the National Prep Championships this weekend to discuss what schools prioritize him.
“Right now, I am hearing the most from Providence, Duke, UConn, Arkansas, Marquette,” Bol Bowen said. “There are a lot of schools reaching out, but I am focused on getting better for AAU. I have been on unofficial visits to UConn and Providence, but I will start my official visit process soon. I will look to set an official with Providence. I would like to visit Duke as well.”

UConn: “I learned a lot about the history of the program. Also, I got a good feel for the new coaching staff and what they are trying to bring into Gambel and add to the history.”

Providence: “I learned a lot about Coach (Ed) Cooley and how they envision using me. They have a vision of me being a star in the Big East with them.”
Duke: “When you get an offer from Duke, it is an incredible scholarship to have next to your name. I am excited to take advantage of finding out more. The program as a whole, we all saw how big Coach K’s (Mike Krzyzewski) retirement and the history of the program.”
Bol Bowen’s take
“I am going to be looking at how I am going to fit at the school,” Bol Bowen said. “And how they plan to use my versatility to attack mismatches. It is still very early in my process, so I will be looking at a lot of different factors, but mainly the fit.”
On3’s take
Taylor Bol Bowen is an elite-level defender. That is his calling card at this point, the length and the ability to move his feet and switch down to guard on the block. At 6-foot-9, he has natural timing both in the passing lanes and as a weakside shot blocker. Offensively, he is still raw. There are flashes, like with the catch and shoot three, but there is still a lot of inconsistency with thinking and not reacting in-game. Bol Bowen has a world of upside; the frame and the defensive instincts have NBA potential, the offensive portion of his game is coming around.
