'24 Cam Scott talks UNC, Florida State, South Carolina; & Kentucky?
On3 is introducing its 2024 watch list in the next couple of weeks. One name sure to appear is Lexington (SC) High School’s shooting guard Cam Scott. Scott is a 6-foot-5 sophomore and this year was named to the South Carolina 5A all-state team for the second time in his high school career.
“I am getting comfortable talking on the court,” Scott said. “More comfortable with being a leader. Defensively, I am playing more consistently. I watch a lot of the longer guards, Kevin Durant and Paul George. I watch their pace and how they get to their spots in the mid-range.”
Scott and his teammates made it to the Peach Jam Finals by playing with the Team United program on last summer’s Nike EYBL 15u circuit.
“One of my biggest goals this AAU season is to win Peach Jam,” Scott said. “We made it to the finals but came up just short last year. We have been talking about that all year; that is our biggest goal.”
On3 caught up with Cam Scott after a game at the Big Shots Southeast Tip-Off where his Team United 16u team won the 17u bracket championship. He talked about Frank Martin at South Carolina and which programs are recruiting him the hardest.
“I hear the most from North Carolina and Florida State,” Scott said. “I’ll say South Carolina too, but that has gone down since Frank’s (Martin) situation.”
Scott talks recruitment
Florida State: “Their biggest thing is their history, and then what they have consistently coming in and out of the program. They have produced a lot of big guards and long wings, and that is my frame. Their thing is getting me ready for that next level. That is a place I feel I could fit in with very well.”

South Carolina: “Frank Martin getting let go affected my recruitment a good bit. He was kind of like family to us. I believe that through the culture they built there, they will keep that same grit and grind.”
North Carolina: “Their whole thing is playing somewhere I feel comfortable. They have had a lot of great players play there, a lot of great players at my position there. They want me to be the one to come in and follow them.”
“Kentucky reached out recently. We are supposed to be getting up with them in a little bit,” Scott said. “That’s really the only school that has not offered, they told me.”
Scott’s take
“I want to go somewhere I feel comfortable and can play my role on the team to my highest ability,” Scott said. “I want to make an impact instantly with the team. The comfort level will be big for my family and me.”
On3’s take
Cam Scott is a lengthy wing prospect with a lot of pop. The natural tools are very impressive all the way around. Scott has a mature game, plays within the flow of the offense, rarely forces things. The jump shot release can be cleaned up a little, but the pull-up is smooth. Since the summer, Scott has developed his footwork and handle in the half-court, creating space to elevate into his jumper. Scott can take over a game carry his team. Would like to see him develop the comfort to take a more aggressive, alpha role on his teams. He is very efficient in his game, his ability to score with a less is more approach is mature. Strength will come, and he is tracking as one of the top players in the 2024 class.
