'24 Klairus Amir talks early Xavier, Penn State offers and move from Australia
While Marietta (GA) Wheeler High sophomore Klairus Amir may not be a national name yet, the process is still early for him.
“My game is shooting the ball,” Amir told On3 Sports. “Stretching the floor and going to get the rebound. I Have improved my defense. They have worked a lot on my intensity and my physicality since they came to Wheeler. I watch a lot of Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, try and take from their games.”
College programs have already started to take notice of the 6-foot-7 sharp-shooter. Klairus Amir talked exclusively with On3 Sports about the current state of his recruitment.
“Right now, I have offers from George Mason, Xavier, and Penn State.”
Amir talks recruitment
Xavier: “I heard a lot of good things about the program. I know they love forwards who can shoot the ball like me. I feel like I fit with what they do and want to get up to see them.”
Penn State: ”I know they are a school that loves shooting, especially from the wing and forward spots.”

George Mason: “They like shooters too, but they talk about how they like the energy I bring. They also like foreigners, so with me being from Australia, that is good to hear.”
Amir’s take
“Clemson, Southern Cal, and UCLA are some schools who are in contact with us but have not offered yet. I have not visited any schools yet but will look to start taking some toward the end of summer. I know I’d like to see Xavier and Southern Cal. I’d like to come in as a freshman and make an impact help the team.
“I’ve lived in the States for three years now, since 2019. It was a big decision; I had to leave my whole family. I knew I had to decide to come to America just because of how much better I would get as a player.”
On3’s take
Klairus Amir has a great frame and is a smooth shooter with outstanding balance and a repeatable release. He has a good frame and comes from a basketball family, dad, and uncle both played pro in Australia. You would like to see him attack closeouts better and continue developing the athleticism. Looking ahead, Amir has a lot to like with the upside and growing into a national-type prospect.
