'24 Rodney Brown talks Cal and other west coast offers
One of the smoothest shooters in the Under Armour Circuit is 2024 Rodney Brown. Playing up in age, the 6-foot-6 shooting guard has excellent length and a projectable frame. West Coast Elite program director says Brown reminds him of Allan Crabbe at the same stage.
“I shoot the ball well and use my length to cause turnovers on defense,” Brown told On3. “I watch a lot of Devin Booker and try to model my game after his. He gets to his spots off the bounce, and he can really shoot it like me. We have similar frames. My body is getting stronger, I still have room for growth, but I can tell I am getting stronger.”
He shot 56-percent on 27 attempts from three during the first UAA session averaging 16.8 points per game. On3 caught up with Rodney Brown to see which programs have been prioritizing him early.
“Right now, I have offers from Cal and Washington State. I will take one of my junior year officials to Cal; we have not decided the exact date yet.”
Brown talks recruitment
Cal: “They think I can fit in there with how they play. They tell me how they can help me and what I need to keep getting better at to get to the next level.”
Washington State: “They are a new offer for me, so we have not spoken to them a ton yet. I am eager to go through the process and keep learning more.”

Brown’s take
“I want to go somewhere that feels like home, where I have a comfort level with the coach. I want to go somewhere I know I will improve and get better. That is the main thing for me; I want to go somewhere that will develop me.
I come from a basketball family, all my family played basketball. My cousin, Robert Smith, played at Santa Clara.”
On3’s take
You immediately notice Rodney Brown’s frame. He has long arms and a projectable build. The shot is pure. He has deep range with a quick and consistent release and excellent balance. Brown showcased other facets at various times as well, with good vision and reads. He will need to continue adding weight and getting stronger, but he is not afraid to go in there and rebound his area. He will need to continue developing off the bounce, and as he gets stronger, the in-game pop should grow. Brown’s natural skill-set is the takeaway, with the frame to build on. Watch the development here as he is on an upward trajectory.
