Memphis (Tenn.) Freedom Prep Academy three-star athlete Tyler Woodard decommitted Monday from Mississippi State.

“I would like to thank the Mississippi State University football staff for recruiting me thus far but I am officially de-committing to explore other options to ensure I am making the best decision for me,” Woodard tweeted. “Mississippi State will still remain one of my top school choices through this final recruiting process as I know this was a hard decision.”

The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies – has Woodard the No. 656 overall recruit in the country.

He was on a visit to Georgia Tech this weekend.

Tyler Woodard’s decommitment comes just hours after the Bulldogs earned a commitment from Lucedale (Miss.) George County four-star wide receiver Marquez Dortch.

Dortch became the top commit in the Mississippi State class and boosted its recruiting class from No. 35 to No. 30 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. However, following Woodard’s announcement, the Bulldogs dropped a spot to No. 31.

The Mississippi State recruiting class now has 17 commits, including two four-star prospects in Dortch and Rockwall (Texas) four-star quarterback Braedyn Locke.

The class does still have one player who’s position is athlete in Canton (Miss.) Canton Academy three-star Dakota Jordan.
