Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep running back Xavier Townsend decommitted Sunday from Iowa State.

“First and foremost I would like to thank Coach (Matt) Campbell and the entire Iowa State coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to further my education and play football at the next level,” Townsend said. “With much prayer and discussion with my family and (my high school coach) I have decided to decommit from Iowa State University. Thank you Cyclone Nation for all your support.”

Xavier Townsend is the No. 525 overall player in the country, according to the 2022 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He is also the 42nd-best running back and 71st-best player from the state of Florida.

Despite being far away from the Sunshine State, the Cyclones have done well recruiting in Florida.

Council Bluffs (Iowa) Lewis Central four-star interior offensive lineman Hunter Deyo is the top commit in the class. The next two highest-rated commits — Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons four-star R Mason Thomas and Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Bay Tech four-star wide receiver Greg Gaines — are both from Florida

Zephyrhills (Fla.) Wiregrass Ranch three-star quarterback Rocco Becht is also a commit in the recruiting class.
