Two weeks after releasing his top seven, On3 Consensus four-star junior safety R.J. Jones of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco says he’s going back to the drawing board.
“In light of recent coaching changes, I am reevaluating my top seven,” Jones said Monday morning in a social media post. “Just gonna keep working until this all settles down.”
On Thanksgiving, Jones released his top seven of Oregon, Cal, USC, Louisville, Oregon State, Ohio State and Michigan. His announcement to slow things down comes hours after Oregon announced that Mario Cristobal was leaving to take the head coaching position at Miami.
Jones has offers from all of the schools that were previously in his top seven.
R.J. Jones is the No. 220 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also ranked as the No. 20 safety and the 15th-best player in California.
R.J. Jones has taken a number of unofficial visits this fall and throughout the previous summer. He’s been to games at Oregon and visited Oregon and Oregon State unofficially this past summer. Jones has also visited Cal and Louisville for games earlier in the season, and he’s been at USC and UCLA a number of times over the last few years.

Jones also camped at Ohio State last summer. Michigan is a factor in his recruitment because former Wolverine David Long is a family friend.
R.J. Jones plays at Bosco, one of the top high school football programs in the country. Jones started his career at Bishop Alemany High before transferring to national power St. John Bosco this past offseason.
In nine games this season, R.J. Jones tallied 36 tackles, four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
