Fredrick King, a 6-foot-10, 220-pound center out of Mexico City (Mexico) NBA Academy Latin America has committed to Creighton for the class of 2022, he told On3.

“It felt like I had a bond with the coaching staff and players and everyone there,” King said to On3. “They welcomed me the best.”

King is ranked as the No. 96 overall prospect in the 2022 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are much higher on King, ranking him as the 70th overall prospect in the class.

The four-star senior big man decommitted from Louisville in March after former head coach Chris Mack’s departure. In the first go-around, King chose the Cardinals over Georgetown, Miami, Washington State, and even Creighton.

King, who boasts a standing reach of 9-foot-2, did not have a single Division 1 scholarship offer upon entering the NBA Academy in January of last year. According to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, King is a “mobile big man who is quick off his feet and plays with an exceptionally high-intensity level, while possessing intriguing skill, poise, and maturity.”

Originally from the Bahamas, King is young for his class and will enroll at Creighton as a 17-year-old.

Fredrick King averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds per game at the NBA Academy Games in San Luis Potosi, Mexico last September.

The NBA currently has six academies: two in China; one each in New Delhi, India; San Luis Potosi, Mexico; and Thies, Senegal; with its Global Academy serving as the hub for elite prospects in Canberra, Australia. Twenty-eight players from the NBA academies are currently playing Division I basketball. NBA Global Academy alumnus Josh Giddey was the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NBA draft (Jonathan Givony).
