Over three dozen schools have offered Jameer Grimsley. The four-star cornerback out of Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Catholic named a top eight of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Penn State and South Carolina.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback took official visits to Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina and Penn State. He also took an unofficial visit to Florida.

After those visits, the No. 199 prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings is ready to trim his list to three.

“I am down to Alabama, Florida and Michigan,” Grimsley told On3. “It was hard getting down to eight schools earlier, but it wasn’t too hard to get down to three. I just see these three as the best fits for me.”

Grimsley grew up following the Gators. It is only 90 minutes from home. He likes the staff at the Swamp and staying close to home appeals to him.

“Florida was my dream school since I was a kid. Florida is a great school, it has a great history and they have been a winning school. They have a strong recruiting class, Coach Corey Raymond puts guys into the NFL and he is one of my favorite coaches.”

Alabama and Michigan are working to get Grimsley out of the Sunshine State.

“Alabama has been very consistent and always at the top in college football. They produce a lot of first-round picks at my position and both T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) and Coach Nick Saban have been recruiting me hard.

“I am coming off a great official visit to Michigan. They won back-to-back Big Ten Championships, their academics are really strong and the program is going in the right direction. I have a cool relationship with Coach Steve Clinkscale too.”

Grimsley will commit to Alabama, Florida or Michigan soon

It is a top three on Thursday, but by the weekend, it will be down to one. Grimsley is planning to announce his commitment soon.

“I am still working out the details, but I will be committing on Saturday (July 1),” Grimsley said. “I am still thinking about is and praying about it, so I do not have my decision made yet, but I am close.

“The most important thing to me is going to a school that will help me succeed as an individual and as a player. I want to play for a school that is producing players and either contending for championships now or on their way to contending

“Overall, it is about the best fit for me. I want to go play for who will get me to my next goal – the NFL.”
