4-star CB Peyton Dyer decommits from South Carolina

Atlanta Duluth four-star cornerback Peyton Dyer has decommitted from South Carolina.
He was pledged to the Gamecocks since Nov. 4. The likes of Ohio State, USC and Georgia have remained in the mix in his recruitment.
Dyer is the No. 275 overall prospect and No. 24 CB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 31 player in Georgia.
The blue-chipper has taken some visits this spring and UGA is one of the schools that had him on campus earlier this year. Head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are in the thick of things for the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder.
“I had a great time at Georgia. I met with coach Smart, coach Donte (Williams) and we talked about a lot of things,” Dyer told On3’s Chad Simmons after the visit in February. “We watched some film and they are one of my top schools. I will be taking an official visit there.”

Official visits to USC (June 6), Georgia (June 13) and South Carolina (June 20) have previously been set for Dyer. He was one of four blue-chip prospects pledged to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks to date.
Dyer’s stock is rising ahead of senior season
At the end of February, Dyer was a recipient of a major bump in the 2026 On300. He now checks in as the No. 188 prospect and has everything a school is looking for in a great defensive back, according to On3 National Scout Cody Bellaire:
“Peyton Dyer is a menace when the football is in the air and he proved it on Friday nights as a junior. The South Carolina commit was able to break up 12 passes this past season and come down with an interception. At 6-foot, 190 pounds, Dyer has great size for the position to pair with his tremendous ball skills. He has improved his patience in his footwork at the line of scrimmage and has done an excellent job in rerouting receivers off the line in order to gain leverage off the snap. His physical tools and positional traits allow him to cover anyone in the underneath and intermediate levels of the field. He’ll need to continue developing his top-end speed in order to become more consistent at defending vertical threats, but he is one the youngest prospects in the entire 2026 recruiting cycle so it hopefully will come as he physically matures and develops.”
