4-star Coen Carr sets Tennessee, Michigan State officials; wants to visit South Carolina, Georgia
Coen Carr is the No. 42 player in On3’s 2023 class. The 6-foot-7 forward at Greenville (SC) Legacy Early College has proven to be one of the most explosive players in the 2023 class.
“I’m a slasher, and I play defense,” Carr told On3. “Those are the two most important things I do on the court. My jump shot is getting a lot more consistent, and my playmaking. I watch a lot of Zach Lavine and Demar Derozen; I like their games. I’ll watch how they get to the mid-range and how they slash to the basket.”
The high-flying Carr was a standout throughout Nike’s Peach Jam with the Georgia Stars. On3 caught up with Coen Carr to talk about his recruitment and visits.
“I took official visits to Indiana and Vanderbilt already,” Carr said. “I am taking on to Tennessee on Monday after Peach Jam and then Michigan State on the 30th.”
Carr talks visits
Indiana: “They have a great fanbase. Before I went to the game, they were cheering my name and everything outside when I walked up to the stadium. I love their fanbase; they are always tagging me in stuff and commenting under my posts. Coach (Mike) Woodson is a former NBA guy, so he knows how to get to the league and stay in the league.”
Vanderbilt: “It’s the coaches for me. They put me in a room and broke down film and everything. Coach (Jerry) Stackhouse played the same position as me, and we are about the same height and everything. He is someone I can look up to and really learn from.”
Tennessee: “They have been on me a lot since they offered me during the season. I like the way they play. They put players like me in the league, Admiral Schofield, Grant Williams, and guys like that. They like big wings that play defense. Coach (Bryan) Lentz is the coach talking to me most.”
Michigan State: “They always make deep runs in March Madness. They are always top ten, top five in the rankings. They always win, and that is something I want to do, win. Coach (Doug) Wojcik is the coach talking to me most.”
Carr’s senior year visits
The NCAA has implemented new rules where each player gets five junior year official visits and five senior year official visits. With the NCAA’s calendar flipping on August 15, each of Carr’s visits mentioned above are junior year visits. Starting August 15, players in the 2023 class will get five more senior year official visits to take.

“I want to get to South Carolina and Georgia for official visits,” Carr said.
South Carolina: “They are the school that is second closest to home, besides Georgia. Being able to stay close to home and play basketball at a high level is eye-opening. For Coach Lamont Paris to come in and keep the No. 1 player in the country (GG Jackson) home says a lot about the program.”
Georgia: “I like the new coach, Mike White. I feel like he is a great coach and that he will make me a better player on and off the court.”
“I feel like Auburn and Oregon are the two schools who haven’t offered and could be close,” Carr said.
In Coen Carr’s words
“I’ll be looking for, not really on the court stuff, but a place that will make me a better person,” Carr said. “Also, the location and the atmosphere of the school. The environment around the school I’ll be looking at.
“I want to play in a program that plays really fast with a lot of possessions. I’d like to get up and down the floor with defensive pressure. So far, during my recruitment, I would say I’ve developed the best relationship with Coach Ya (Yasir Rosemond) at Indiana and Coach Adam (Mazarei) at Vanderbilt.”

“Overtime Elite has contacted me,” Carr said. “But I don’t think I am going to go that route. I think I got a great situation at Legacy. I have a great relationship with my coaches and my teammates, so I’m not looking to go away from that now.”
