4-star EDGE Jared Smith sets his commitment date

June was full of official visits for Jared Smith.
After visiting Ole Miss officially in April, he was at South Carolina in June.
That trip was followed by a visit to Georgia, then on June 14, Smith visited Tennessee. He wrapped things up with visits to Florida State on June 18 and USC on June 21.
Many recruits have announced their commitments in July, but the No. 42 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking is taking this month to make his decision before announcing it in August.
“I plan on announcing my commitment on Aug. 3,” Smith told On3.
Smith will choose between Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn, USC and Ole Miss.
The favorite according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine is South Carolina. He was back in Columbia last month, the Gamecocks impressed.
“South Carolina has always been high on my list and this visit solidified that. They always show me love when I’m in Columbia. This trip, I was able to bring my family so they could get a feel for the staff, school, and the city.

“My grandma isn’t worried as much now that she met the people that I would be around. My family now sees what I see, that Columbia is a great city and the Gamecocks are pretty cool.”
Sterling Lucas is Smith’s lead recruiter. The two have a great relationship.
“Coach Lucas is my guy. He gives it to me straight. He let me know how he plans on using me and he let me know a few things I can start correcting now.”
Ole Miss is surging in this race and the Rebels could be South Carolina’s top competition heading into these final four visits. He had a great visit to Oxford earlier this spring.
