4-star forward Tafara Gapare decommits from DePaul
Class of 2023 four-star forward Tafara Gapare tells On3 he has decommitted from DePaul and will reopen his recruitment.
The 6-foot-10 prospect out of the South Kent (Conn.) School is originally from New Zealand. He arrived in the United States just over six months ago and immediately burst onto the scene. During his limited time in the States, Gapare received 27 scholarship offers, including Maryland, Illinois, DePaul, Virginia Tech, UConn, and others. He also received interest from two professional leagues, the Australian NBL, as well as Overtime Elite.
Gapare is ranked as the No. 86 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Statement from Gapare
“I would like to first say thank you to Coach Tony Stubblefield and the entire basketball coaching staff at DePaul University for believing in me and my talents.

“I am very appreciative of your support, however, after much consideration and talks I have decided to reopen my recruitment. During this time I will weigh other options in addition to DePaul University. Thank you, Tafara Gapare.”
Gapare could potentially reclassify to 2022, however, a decision will not be made until later this summer.
“I’m class of 2023 right now, but I could go (to college) this year, or I could go next year,” Gapare said to On3.
