4-star Jaeden Mustaf talks visits; "It was the craziest atmosphere I've experienced"
Jaeden Mustaf is the 2023 On3 Consensus No. 39 ranked player. The 6-foot-5 guard recently transferred to defending North Carolina state champion Matthews (NC) Carmel Christian.
“I like to get to the rim,” Mustaf told On3. “I take pride in playing defense and don’t like when people score on me, but also get my teammates involved and know when to pull up and shoot. I’ll watch Anthony Edwards because of our size and athleticism; watch how he gets to his spots.”
He is playing up on the 17u Adidas 3SSB Circuit for the New World AAU program. On3 caught up with Jaeden Mustaf recently to talk about his recruitment.
“Recently, I’ve heard a lot from Georgetown, Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers,” Mustaf said. “I’ve visited Virginia Tech, Rutgers, and Maryland. Those three schools will probably get official visits.”
Mustaf talks recruitment
Virginia Tech: “I learned a lot about the atmosphere there. I went down for a football game, which was the craziest atmosphere I’ve experienced. Everyone supports everyone there; I wasn’t expecting that. My old teammate Rodney Rice went there, and I think I would fit in well with my knowing Coach (Mike) Jones and the coaches trusting me.”
Maryland: “They just got a new coaching staff. Just it being hometown, that is big because that’s where I’m from. A lot of my family and my friends are nearby.”

Rutgers: “Their facilities are crazy. I didn’t expect all that when I went in there. Their weight room had some equipment I’d never seen before. Their facilities are great. I also like their coaches; they talk to us a lot.”
“LSU has reached out recently,” Mustaf said. “My teammate from last year, Tyrell Ward, goes there.”
Mustaf’s take
“I’m looking for somewhere I will be able to get a good education,” Mustaf said. “A place where I trust the coach and know the coach believes in me and what I can do. A family is big; when I’m done with school, I can come back and bring my family back. And I want to go to a place where I know I can win.”
On3’s take
Jaeden Mustaf is a big-bodied wing who plays with a straight line burst. He is a jack-of-all-trades type of wing in that he can handle, shoot, and pass, playing multiple positions on the floor. Mustaf is a good team defender and rebounds well for his wing position. The jump shot needs work as it is streaky and a bit of a push shot right now, but he makes it some. As a long-armed 6-foot-5 wing, there are many things teams can do with Mustaf, and he is a triple-double threat each time he steps on the floor. His father, Jerrod Mustaf, was a first-round NBA draft pick in 1990.
