Four-star junior defensive back Jamel Johnson of Arlington (Texas) Seguin released a top-10 list Wednesday morning on social media.

Johnson, who claims more than 31 offers, said his top 10 schools are Oklahoma, Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State, USC, LSU, Florida State, Michigan, Texas and Texas A&M. All the teams in his top 10 have reportedly offered Johnson a scholarship.

Jamel Johnson ready for more visits

Jamel Johnson is just beginning to go through the recruiting process. However, he’s been on a number of visits to Texas, Texas A&M, OU and others. Other visits are on the way, including a visit to watch OU and Texas play later this season, he said.

In the past, Johnson had listed OU, Texas, A&M, SMU and TCU among his top teams, but the Mustangs and Horned Frogs were not on his list of top 10 teams at this point. He has also talked about a desire to play in the SEC, which is why Auburn, Alabama and LSU are on his list, along with Texas and OU.

Johnson was named the Class 5A District 5 freshman of the year in 2019. He backed that up with another solid performance in 2020, earning first-team all-district honors.

Charles Power, the Director of Scouting and Rankings for On3, is a fan of Johnson’s game.

“Jamel Johnson is an active run defender and tackler from his safety spot,” Power said. “He’s best as a cover-down defender and shows the ability to deliver big hits at the strike point. We also see Johnson play a bit in coverage as a nickel. Long term, he likely projects as a strong safety. Johnson has also tested as an above-average athlete to this point.”

You can see why Power is a fan of Johnson in his sophomore highlight reel.

Seguin is 2-1 on the season with back-to-back victories over Dallas Carter and Fort Worth Wyatt. The Cougars are at home on Friday night against 0-2 Dallas Wilmer-Hutchins.
