4-star LB Rodney Colton down to five schools, sets commitment date

Newman (Ga.) four-star linebacker Rodney Colton is zeroing in on a college commitment, and he’s now down to five schools in his recruitment.
Colton told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Friday that he’ll announce his decision August 9 between Ole Miss, UCLA, Colorado, Tennessee and Florida State.
He will take official visits with each program before his decision, and has already been at Penn State and UCLA. The Seminoles will host him this weekend, with Ole Miss (June 13) and Colorado (June 20) getting the final two visits.
The Nittany Lions in particular have made a strong impact on Colton over the past few months.
“I’m not gonna lie, I see myself at Penn State,” Colton told BWI after his visit. “I’m a country boy. People think I’m from Atlanta, but I’m a country boy and I like it up there. But I also know I need to take these official visits to Florida State and Ole Miss. I had a really good visit to Ole Miss the last time I was there, just like when I came to Penn State [in March]. So, I know I need to check those schools out before I can make any decisions.”
FSU among those looking to lock down Colton’s commitment
The ‘Noles, who hosted him in March and have been pursuing him ever since his decommitment from South Carolina, will be pushing hard this weekend. And he’s eager to see what they have to offer.

“One big thing is bonding with the players,” Colton told Warchant when asked what he’s looking forward to on this trip. “Like Elijah Herring is over there, so we are close. So I want to get involved with a lot of the other players. I want to see what FSU football is all about — like the bond, how it’s like and how I fit into it all.”
From there, the Rebels and Buffaloes will get their shot before he uses July to narrow down for a final decision.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder is the No. 243 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 16 linebacker and No. 26 recruit in Georgia.
