4-star linebacker Tre Edwards sets commitment date
Chula Vista (Calif.) Mater Dei Catholic linebacker Tre Edwards is ready to make his college commitment decision.
On Monday, Edwards announced that he will choose between four schools — Arizona, Cal, Oregon and UCLA — on Friday, May 27.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder is the No. 250 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 21 linebacker and the No. 16 junior in California.
Edwards has taken visits to each school in his top four, but only one official visit thus far — a trip to UCLA this past weekend. The Bruins are trending in a major way to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives UCLA a 95.0 percent chance of securing his commitment, with Arizona and Oregon trailing far behind.
RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

Coaching connections key at UCLA for Tre Edwards
Edwards told On3’s Chad Simmons earlier this month that of the schools pursuing him, UCLA had an advantage over everyone else.
“It is close, and all about the same, but I would say UCLA has a slight edge,” Edwards told Simmons. “It is really about my connection with coach Ken Norton, Jr. When I was on a visit early in April, spending time with him really changed things for me with UCLA. … He has played and coached at the highest level, so to be able to play for him and learn from him, would be amazing.”
He was initially expected to take official visits to all four schools and commit later this summer, but commitment time is just around the corner. And that’s very good news for those in Westwood.
