Gevonte Ware, an On3 four-star power forward in the 2025 class, has committed to Rutgers and head coach Steve Pikiell, he told On3.

The 6-foot-9 senior out of Charlotte (NC) 1 of 1 Academy ultimately chose the Scarlet Knights over Wake Forest and Duquesne. He also received offers from Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arizona State, DePaul, Alabama, and others.

According to On3’s Top-150 Player Rankings, Ware is the No. 105 overall prospect in the 2025 class. He’s also the No. 25-ranked power forward.

Ware on his commitment to Rutgers

Gevonte Ware discussed his decision to choose Rutgers with On3.

“Because Rutgers felt like home and it’s also close to home. They treated me and my family like I was priority. What I like about coach Pikiell and the staff is that they keep it real with me and they treated me and my family like we was already family.”

Scouting Report

“Gevonte Ware has a naturally strong frame. At 6-foot-9, he has soft, passer-friendly hands with long arms. He is an excellent defensive rebounder. Ware is skilled on the offensive end with range that extends beyond the three-point line off the catch. Ware lacks overall pop at this point, but his instincts, toughness, and IQ get him into position to make plays. Ware can push the break and create, off the bounce, in the half court. He is not a rim protector. People have compared him to shades of Kennedy Meeks.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
