Matt Gilhool, a four-star power forward in the 2025 class, is ready to make his college decision. The 6-foot-10 senior out of Philadelphia (PA) William Penn Charter will announce his commitment live on the On3 Recruits YouTube Channel on Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30 PM ET. His finalists are Alabama, Georgia Tech, Iowa, LSU, Mississippi State, and Tennessee.

Gilhool is the No. 71 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 14 power forward prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s evaluators are slightly higher on Gilhool, ranking him No. 62 in the 2025 class.

Matt Gilhool talks programs involved

In a previous interview with On3’s Jamie Shaw, Matt Gilhool discussed several of the schools he’s considering.

IOWA: “I talk with Coach (Fran) McCaffery a lot. He’s really big on me and he thinks I can really fit into the program and what they do. I like the way he plays with his forwards. They have a tradition of playing with bigs who can stretch the floor, letting them get downhill, and being versatile.”

LSU: “Coach (Matt) McMahon is my guy, he’s really big on me. He wants versatile fours, able to space the floor and let his guards work. He likes his forwards to be able to get involved in ball screens and actions like that.”

GEORGIA TECH: “I love Coach (Damon) Stoudamire, I talk with Coach (Karl) Hobbs as well. They haven’t really had a lot of versatile fours on their roster, they’ve mostly used big fours. But Coach Stoudamire says he’s excited to add the versatility to his roster. I know he was a legit hooper and a stud back in his day. Talking with coach, you can tell he knows the ins and the outs and I could learn a lot from him.”

ALABAMA: “I talk with Coach (Christian) Pino a lot, one of their assistants over there, and he has been recruiting me for over a year now. he’s been coming to my high school and just continues showing me a lot of support.”

TENNESSEE: “I’ve talked with Coach Greg (Polinsky) for probably two years now. He just loves to see how my game continues to develop and how much I continue to improve each year, continuing to show that I can play at an SEC level.”

MISSISSIPPI STATE: “Coach (Chris) Jans is my guy, I talk to him a lot. He’s big on me, I love that guy. I love Coach (David) Anwar too, he’s a Philly guy, so I talk with him a good amount. I’ve been talking with them since I was like 15 or 16. They are bit believers in me, and that is something that I value.”

Scouting Report

“Very real intrigue with the long term prospects of Matthew Gilhool. At 6-10, he is a very fluid athlete combining vertical pop with lateral ability. The lefty has natural shot block timing around the basket and he can slide his feet and open his hips on the defensive end. He is still getting used to his body and the speed of the game, strength will be necessary, but the physical natural tools are readily apparent. Offensively, Gilhool is a capable and confident shooter. Off the catch, he has a fluid load with a consistent release. He is able to push the break with control and get the ball to its proper areas. There is a mid post game and footwork there as well. Again, he needs continued strength and in-game reps, but there is a lot here to work with.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
