4-star PG Chance Mallory, former Virginia commit, visiting Maryland

Four-star point guard Chance Mallory will be taking an official visit to Maryland this weekend, he told On3.

The 5-foot-9 recruit decommitted from the Virginia Cavaliers in late-October after longtime head coach Tony Bennett decided to retire.

Mallory, a senior at St Anne’s-Belfield School (Charlottesville, VA), has visited both Miami and Tennessee since reopening his recruitment. However, it should be noted that Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga has since stepped down following Mallory’s visit to Coral Gables.

Mallory is the nation’s No. 55 overall prospect, No. 9 point guard and No. 2 recruit from Virginia in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Scouting Report

“This year Chance Mallory averaged 26.0 points on 51 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three. The 5-foot-9 point guard opened eyes with his tough-minded play, ability to score in traffic, and his deep, deep three-point shooting range. Mallory has a shifty handle with excellent balance and body control. He also pulls gravity once he crosses half-court, pulling the defense out because of his threat to knock down shots from the hash mark. This summer with Team Thrill on the UAA Next Circuit, Mallory averaged 20.4 points while shooting 36.2 percent from three and 83.7 percent from the free-throw line. He has a strong handle that gets him to his spots and the 5-foot-10 Mallory carries range that extends out to 35-plus feet. In the games I watched during this event, Mallory displayed an understanding of when to score and when to distribute. Good things seemed to happen when he had the ball in his hands and initiated the offense. Mallory is also a uniquely good rebounder for his position.”
