Four-star point guard Jeremy Fears of Joliet (Ill.) La Lumiere has cut his of schools down to five. The 6-foot-1 floor general will decide between Michigan, Kansas, Illinois, UConn, and Michigan State. He will no longer consider Memphis, Indiana, and Missouri.

Fears is the No. 32 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is ranked as the No. 6 point guard and the No. 1 player in Indiana.

The Illinois native has been to Champaign a number of times. He’s also been to Michigan, Michigan State, and Indiana for visits. On Thursday, Fears tweeted that he will visit Michigan on Dec. 21.

Fears discussed each of his finalists in a previous interview with On3.

Michigan

“I like Coach (Juwan) Howard,” Fears said. “He has a lot of talent all around and he gets a lot of good guards, good wings, a good bigs. They’re just a winning program.”

Kansas

“Kansas is obviously one of the top teams in the country,” Fears said. “Coach (Bill) Self is a top coach. They always get good talent and good players. It’s Kansas, you know, blue blood.”

Illinois

“When I watched them practice, just the intensity and just the way they play. Coach (Brad) Underwood makes them go hard and compete,” Fears said. “They have a dog mentality.”

Illinois is the closest school to Jeremy Fears proximity-wise, being only about two hours away.

UConn

“Coach (Luke) Murray started following me my freshman year when he was still at Louisville,” Fears said. “He’s kept in touch since then and he told Coach (Dan) Hurley about me so they offered. So they stay in contact and talk to me a lot. UConn lets their guards go, and the past guard history… Kemba Walker, Shabazz Napier… the guards just play. That’s really all I can ask for is for me to be able to go out there and have freedom and play.”

Michigan State

“MSU just stands out because of a Hall-of-Fame coach…Coach (Tom) Izzo,” Fears said. “He’s one of the greatest coaches in basketball. The players and the teams he has… he always has a winning program. And then just the NBA players they have.”
