4-star power forward Corey Chest announces six finalists
Four-star prospect Corey Chest out of New Orleans (La.) Eleanor McMain tells On3 he’s down to six finalists: LSU, Houston, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and the Overtime Elite league.
The 6-foot-8 power forward is ranked as the No. 77 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Chest is fresh off an official visit to LSU over the weekend. He’s also been to Houston unofficially and plans to return for an official later in June.
It should also be noted that Ohio State has not yet offered Chest.
Chest talks “top two” schools and commitment timeframe
On3’s Jamie Shaw caught up with Chest earlier this month.
“I’m taking a visit to LSU on June 14,” Chest said. “I am taking a visit to Houston in late June. Those are really my top two right now; I haven’t been on or scheduled any other visits.”

Chest also gave his thoughts on the two programs.
LSU: “I’ll be visiting when the players get back and get a good feel for the team and the guys. Coach Ronnie (Hamilton) recruited me when he was at Ole Miss. He has been on me heavy, and he is a cool dude.”
Houston: “It’s like home there. I fit with what they do. I’ve been up there like five times already, so I have a good feeling about their team and the coaches. I love it there.”
The Texas A&M Aggies are also in the mix.
“I’m talking a little with Texas A&M, but we haven’t scheduled anything,” Chest said.
Texas A&M: “I fit their style of play. They have a good program.”
Scouting Summary
“Corey Chest is a lengthy and high motor forward. He is not afraid to stick his nose into the mix. Chest is an active rebounder. He finishes well around the basket. Chest runs the floor at a high level. You would like to see him develop the ball skills and range on the jumper. He can defend multiple positions and has a projectable frame once he gets into a college strength and nutrition program.” – Jamie Shaw, On3’s National Recruiting Analyst
“I’m an energy guy; all around, I bring a great motor,” Chest said to On3. “I block shots; I can finish on offense. I’ve locked myself in the gym the last few months and just got better. I watch a lot of Kevin Garnett; he plays hard and does many of the same things I do.”
