Four-star prospect Tafara Gapare has committed to DePaul, he tells On3.

The 6-foot-10 New Zealand native arrived in the United States just six months ago and immediately burst onto the scene. During his limited time in the States, Gapare received 27 scholarship offers, including Maryland, Illinois, DePaul, Virginia Tech, UConn, and others. He also received interest from two professional leagues, the Australian NBL, as well as Overtime Elite.

Gapare is ranked as the No. 76 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Gapare could potentially reclassify to 2022, however, a decision will not be made until later this summer.

“I’m class of 2023 right now, but I could go (to college) this year, or I could go next year,” Gapare said to On3.

“(DePaul) is a really good school,” Gapare told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “They have a spot open for me on the wing. They really believe I can go to the next level.”

With the addition of Gapare, DePaul has formed a four-man recruiting class in 2022. Headed to Chicago from the high school ranks is four-star CG Zion Cruz. Transferring in from the JUCO level is KT Raimey, and joining them is Oklahoma transfer Omoja Gibson.
