Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic four-star quarterback Derek Zammit is one of the top uncommitted passers in the 2026 class, but he might be getting closer to a final decision.

On Wednesday, Zammit told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he is down to four schools in his recruitment: Alabama, Mississippi State, Washington and Syracuse.

Those are expected to be the contenders when he does make a commitment.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder has been a top target for programs in the Northeast over the past year, but he has seen his recruitment grow in recent months. Alabama offered him late last month, and the Crimson Tide are expected to host him for an unofficial visit the weekend of April 11-12.

“Coach Sheridan and I had been talking for about a month,” Zammit told BamaOnLine’s Andrew Bone after the offer. “He came to see me in January and saw me throw. We talked for a good bit that day, so we’ve had a good relationship since then.

… He asked me (last week) if I was ready for the opportunity to have an offer to play for Alabama. It was exciting. We were immediately thinking of when is the best time for us to get down there for a visit. It was a really good conversation.”

Mississippi State looking to make a move with Zammit

Penn State and Syracuse, meanwhile, have both hosted him in recent months. Mississippi State has turned up the heat on Zammit in recent months as well, and he raved about what he was hearing from them in January at the Under Armour All-America Game.

“It’s really nice,” Zammit told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “They breathe football. It’s really cool to see those Southern schools. Especially SEC schools. They got Coach Lebby taking over this year as a head coach and they have Coach Holacek and we’ve started to develop a really good relationship with them. They’re super knowledgeable and I think they’re really heading in the right direction over there. I’m excited to see what they do with it. Maybe I’ll be a part of it. We’ll figure that out later down the line.”

Zammit is coming off a junior season where passed for 2,582 yards with 35 touchdowns and only four interceptions while completing 68% of his passes. He added 560 yards rushing and four additional scores.

On3 ranks him as the No. 237 overall prospect and No. 18 quarterback in the 2026 class.
