4-star QB Tramell Jones visiting Florida, Gators continue to trend for former Florida State commit
Jacksonville Mandarin four-star quarterback Tramell Jones became the latest to back off a commitment to Florida State earlier this week, doing so on Thursday morning.
Just two days later, Jones is in Gainesville on an official visit to Florida — the program that’s now trending to land his pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Billy Napier and the Gators are hosting an elite list of prospects as they take on LSU in The Swamp.
Amidst FSU’s poor 2024 season, the Seminoles have lost major steam on the recruiting trail. Jones was committed for over a year, but began trending heavily toward the Gators earlier this month. Now back on the board, UF looks to be in the driver’s seat for the in-state signal-caller.
“Florida will look to get Tramell Jones on board this weekend. He announced his decommitment from Florida State on Thursday and even before then, he was trending toward the Gators,” On3’s Chad Simmons wrote earlier this week. “Getting him on campus this weekend is big on multiple levels. He could commit and immediately start recruiting. This is a big weekend for Florida in front of a lot of targets and Jones is one of those.”
Jones will be surrounded by five-star talent at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday. Florida State five-star offensive lineman commit Solomon Thomas, Ohio State Five-Star Plus+ cornerback commit Na’eem Offord and Oregon five-star wide receiver commit Dallas Wilson are on campus, as is Jones’ high school teammate, Texas five-star WR commit Jaime Ffrench.
The Gators have a chance to pick up some serious momentum this weekend and build on a recruiting class that ranks just No. 33 in the nation — per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings — with the Early Signing Period just a few weeks away.

Jones now a top uncommitted QB in 2025 cycle
Jones is the No. 247 overall prospect and No. 21 QB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 37 player in Florida.
A three-year starter for the Mustangs beginning as a freshman, Jones has thrown for more than 6,700 yards and 70 touchdowns during his high school career. That includes leading Mandarin to an 11-4 record and the Sunshine State’s 4M championship game last year.
That strong play carried over into the offseason, where he ran the show for South Florida Express 7v7 tournaments, including victory at the Overtime OT7 Finals. He had a terrific showing this summer at the Elite 11 Finals throwing alongside many of the nation’s best.
“He showed off a silky smooth throwing motion and release at the Elite 11 Finals,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power said at the time. “The 6-foot, 195-pounder has a clean stroke with no moving parts. Jones’ tight throwing motion allows for him to throw with consistently deliver catchable footballs and throw with accuracy. The Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin is a pure pocket passer who is at his best when he can sit back and distribute the ball to surrounding playmakers.”
