4-star QB Trever Jackson is down to four schools with a commitment date set
Orlando Jones quarterback Trever Jackson is nearing a decision. Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M or UCLA are his finalists and the 6-foot-3, 190-pound four-star will commit to one of those on Aug. 26.
“I knew I was definitely committing before my senior season and I will have it made later this week,” Jackson told On3. “Going into these last few days, all four schools are pretty equal on my list. I am still working to get it down to one school and it will be about who can develop me as a player and a person. It is not just quarterback, but on the business side too. I want to make sure I get what I need to do well and graduate.”
There was a lot of buzz earlier this summer that Jackson could be closing in on a commitment. Texas A&M was a hot name attached to Jackson. Pittsburgh was viewed as the frontrunner at one time. Then Miami and UCLA offered in June. Ole Miss and Oklahoma came in with offers in July.
A lot has happened fast for Jackson, but he is set on four schools with it soon becoming one.
“I feel good about these schools. Oklahoma is the only school I haven’t visited, but I know enough about the program and Coach Brent Venables and Coach Jeff Lebby. The campus and all that factors in a little, but I feel good enough about them to have them in my top four.”
Jackson’s former teammate Jayden Gibson is in Norman and has answered a lot of his questions as well.
Ole Miss has Jackson on campus late in July. The Rebels impressed the No. 21 quarterback in the country.
“I heard a lot about Mississippi being bland and boring, so visiting Ole Miss for the first time opened my eyes. It was a great community and the players all stay together. Everyone around the school loves Ole Miss and it was a lot different than I expected it to be.
“The visit was really good and I like what Ole Miss is doing. Lane Kiffin has a history with quarterbacks, they have a high-powered offense and he is an offensive wizard.”
Texas A&M had Jackson on campus twice in the summer. He took an official visit to College Station and he took part in camp with Jimbo Fisher and Bobby Petrino.

“I like the history the coaches at Texas A&M have with quarterbacks. Being from Florida, I know Coach Fisher’s history at Florida State and what he has done as a head coach. Coach Petrino is an offensive-minded coach who has had success too, so that stands out.
“They have a quarterback committed, but that doesn’t bother me. I know I will have to compete anywhere I go, so I am just searching for the best place.”
UCLA came in with an offer on the back end of Jackson’s Elite 11 Finals performance. He took a visit to Westwood right after that event and the Bruins immediately jumped in the race.
“Chip Kelly has had a lot of success. He has coached in the NFL, he has developed some quarterbacks and I love what he did with DTR (Dorian Thompson-Robinson). He has a great background as a head coach and he is building UCLA back up.
“I also love the west coast vibes out there. The weather is nice, it is a cool feel and UCLA made a strong impression on the visit with the coaches, facilities and campus.”
