Boca Raton (Fla.) West Boca Raton running back Javian Mallory grew up a fan of Florida State, but after receiving more than 40 offers and exploring his options as a recruit, he has committed to another in-state school – Miami.

“One of the biggest reasons that I chose Miami was because that is the school I believe I will be able to come in and compete day one at for a very impactful role on the team,” Mallory told On3. “I also fit in perfectly with their offensive scheme and not just that, but I also fit into their culture as well.

“The last thing is the relationships I’ve built with the entire coaching staff. Coach Cristobal and I communicate every day and they show me I’m a top priority. Coach Cristobal has said the day I commit I will be leading and taking charge of the 2026 class with Dereon Coleman.”

Mallory is Miami’s 6th commitment this cycle. The way Miami recruited Mallory made a difference in the end. He felt like a priority by the staff, he spent a lot of time on campus and the Hurricanes made him feel like he belonged there.

“I’ve been to Miami so many times I can’t even count. I’ve been down there so many times it started to feel like I already went there. The vibes I got from the players and the coaches just continued to make me feel at home.”

Mario Cristobal took the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record last season. The new commit loves the direction the program is headed in.

“Coach Cristobal is bringing back the old Miami culture and taking the program to the next level. Keeping all the south Florida talent home and building around us. The entire program is bought in and has the same vision coach Cristobal has, and that is bringing a National Championship back to Miami.”

Nobody could catch Miami for Mallory

Clemson recently offered. Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame and Ole Miss were on his list too, but the No. 268 prospect in the On3 Ranking took his time and knew when he was ready to make that call.

“Miami has been my No. 1 school for a very long time,” Mallory said. “I knew for sure in December or early January they were the one. It hit after signing day, and when they were able to come see us earlier this year 100%.

“My relationship with the staff is great. I’ve built a connection with almost every coach and it just continues to grow. I’m closest to coach Merritt because he is my position coach. He and coach Cristobal have been recruiting me the hardest. It’s like I’m already part of the family.”
