4-star RB Roderick Robinson flips commitment to Georgia from UCLA
Four-star San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln running back and UCLA commit Roderick Robinson II officially visited Georgia over the weekend, and the Bulldogs couldn’t have made a bigger impression.
On Monday, Robinson announced that he had flipped his commitment from the Bruins to the Bulldogs, giving Kirby Smart and Co. their first running back commitment in the 2023 cycle.
The 6-foot-1, 238-pounder committed to UCLA back in late May after an official visit and remained pledged to the Bruins coming into the weekend. He’d made official visits to Texas A&M and Arizona after his commitment, but what he saw in Athens over the weekend made it clear that’s where he wanted to be.
“I just loved everything they had going on at Georgia, from the brotherhood to the way the coaches interacted with all of the players,” Robinson told On3. “And then the education is what set it off for me. In the SEC, you’re playing at the highest level against the best competition, and I feel like that gets you ready for the NFL. The coaching staff was just so genuine and the players got along with the coaches so well. And the education is top in the country.”
Connection with coaching staff, plan for development were key for Roderick Robinson
Coming into the weekend, Robinson was high on the Bulldogs, but he also liked what he saw from the Bruins so far this season. Conversations with his lead recruiter at Georgia, running backs coach Dell McGee, and head coach Kirby Smart really sealed things for his decision to change his commitment, though.

“I was considering Georgia before I came on my visit, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken my official,” he said. “But if you asked me if I was going to flip the next day, I’m not sure. But the visit was great, overall I loved it, and I decided to flip. … It was after all my meetings with all the coaches. After talking with Coach Smart and Coach McGee, everyone was on the same page and had the same plans for me and my family.
… Georgia is always contending in the SEC, but they’re also always contending in the country. They have a long list of running backs in the NFL; not just in the NFL but producing at high levels in the NFL.”
Robinson says that his recruitment is now fully shut down, and he plans to sign in December and enroll early with the ‘Dawgs.
