Atlanta Douglass four-star safety Jontae Gilbert will commit on August 10 and choose between Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State and UCF, he told On3’s Chad Simmons.

Gilbert added that he is done taking visits and is not traveling anywhere this weekend.

The onetime Ohio State commit has taken official visits this summer to Louisville, UCF, Georgia, Georgia Tech and NC State. He had an official visit to South Carolina scheduled for September which will no longer happen.

Jontae Gilbert Recruit Profile

Gilbert is the nation’s No. 131 overall prospect, No. 14 safety and No. 17 recruit from Georgia in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect.

“Heady secondary player who has tremendous instincts and feel for as a zone and man defender. Great understanding of what receivers are trying to do when setting up their routes. Quality defensive back build measuring in at nearly 6-foot-2, 190 pounds during summer camp visits with an impressive 6-foot-6 wingspan. Can play as a slot corner, boundary corner or hang defender depending on the scheme. Physical player in press coverage and more than willing in run support.

Solid long speed on the track running 23.69 in the 200m and 11.76 in the 100m during his sophomore track and field season. High floor prospect who can play a multitude of roles in the secondary and around the box.”

Gilbert breaks down June visit to Georgia

Georgia “moved up a lot” after Gilbert’s visit to Athens earlier this month.

“One of the biggest highlights of this visit was getting on the board with coach Donte Williams, so he could critique my game,” Gilbert told On3 of his visit. “Another one was when I met with coach Glenn Schumann to talk about their system and the guys they recruited who are similar to me.

“Then meeting with coach Kirby Smart stood out too. In his own words, he said he is really high on me now after I went to camp and competed at a high level. At camp, he believes that I am a player that can play in his defense and he want me to be a part of it.”
