At the start of the season, even before the season started, Jordan Young saw himself playing in Raleigh (N.C.) as part of the NC State Wolfpack. As the season progressed and Young took more visits, his recruitment got a little more cloudy.

Clemson was always a contender. The ACC school in Death Valley was the first school the No. 186 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking visited officially and the longer his recruitment went, the better the Tigers looked.

The four-star safety out of Monroe (N.C.) was originally set to announce his commitment on Oct. 12, his birthday. If he had committed then, it would have been to Dave Doeren and the home state school. Young postponed that announcement and visited Clemson on Oct. 19. That was all he needed.

“Things started to shift away from State in September, then over time, I saw the better opportunities at Clemson,” Young told On3. ” I was at Clemson for the NC State game on Sept. 21, I saw the way the two teams were playing, so I took more time. I visited both schools again in October made the final decision earlier this week.

“Clemson is a great school with coaching stability, great players to practice against every day, a place I can play on a big stage at and a school that will develop.

“I thought I was going to State for a long time, but Clemson is the best place for me. Clemson is truly a family.”

This is a big win on the recruiting trail for Clemson. The Tigers came from behind in this race and Young is commitment No. 14 for Swinney this cycle.

Young loves the fit at Clemson

Young has visited Clemson around 10 times. He has been spending time at Death Valley over the last few years and the people and the culture always had the ACC program high on his list.

“Clemson is so family-oriented,” Young said. “The people and the organization are different there. Clemson is so detailed and so well put together as a staff and as a program. They put the time in to get to know their recruits and their families. Everyone works together at Clemson to make it a big family. That was a big difference from other schools.”

Swinney, Mickey Conn and Wes Goodwin were all involved in his recruitment.

“Coach Conn was the main recruiter for me and he is a great guy. I had heard great things about him, then I got to know him and I like him a lot. He likes me as a player and they see me competing early for playing time at safety. Coach Dabo is great and I like coach Goodwin too. The coaches at Clemson all know me and my family well. They are great people.”

If all goes well at safety for Young, he wants to make plays at wide receiver and as a returner on special teams. The staff has already discussed those possibilities with him and he is eager to get to work.

“I get to play on a big stage at Clemson and that is exciting. They are on TV a lot, they play in big games and I will be able to be seen by a lot of people. Clemson is a top school that will develop me and put me in a position to get on the field.

“They are not big on the Transfer Portal, so that gives me more time to practice and develop to be a player there. I see a lot of great opportunities at Clemson.”
