4-star Sammy Jackson commits to VCU over Texas, Indiana, others

Sammy Jackson, a four-star small forward in the 2026 class, has committed to VCU, becoming one of the highest-ranked players in program history.
The 6-foot-7 rising senior out of Roman Catholic (PA) chose the Rams over Texas, Indiana, and St. Joe’s.
Jackson is ranked 73rd nationally in the class by On3. He’s also the No. 26-ranked small forward and the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania.
Jackson on his commitment to VCU
Sammy Jackson went in-depth on his commitment to the Rams.
“ I chose VCU because of the relationship I have with their coaching staff — Phil Martelli Jr., Jimmy Martelli, Ryan Daly, and the rest of their staff. I’m looking to come and make an immediate impact as a freshman and help be a part of a winning team and a winning program and continue to build on from there.”

What led to his trust in Phil Martelli Jr. and the rest of the staff?
“ I trust Phil Martelli Jr. and the staff. The Martelli’s are a great family. I know their father, Phil Martelli Sr, and Phil Martelli Jr. and Jimmy Martelli, and they’re Philly guys. You know, they’re from where I’m from or where I live now, and just my trust in them. And they have a great vision for me. They have a great vision for me as a guard, a big guard, a point guard, a shooting guard for them, and being able to play the guard position for them.”
In his own words, what type of player is VCU getting in Sammy Jackson?
“I’m a big point guard. I’m about 6-foot-8 and I could play the one, to two, to three at the college level. I feel like my play style is a creator for my teammates. I feel like I have the ability to be on the court with anybody, any type of players – scorers, playmakers, screen setters, anybody. And be able to create for them, but also know when it’s my turn, it’s my time, and if my name is being called to go get a bucket.”
He has a message for VCU fans.
”I’m ready to come in as a freshman and work my butt off. And to bring a lot of good things to the school and make a big impact. On the court, off the court, around school. Let’s go! Let’s work, VCU Nation!”
Scouting Jackson’s Game
On3’s Jamie Shaw recently wrote about Jackson and his game after scouting him at EYBL last month.
The unique nature of Sammy Jackson’s game makes him very intriguing as a long-term prospect. Listed at 6-foot-7, his Team Final team ran a lot of their offense through him.
Acting as an offensive hub in the half court, Jackson showed quick processing and an ability to consistently deliver on target and on time. He is a fluid athlete, but not the most explosive which did cause some troubles finishing at the rim. But his feel allowed his team to consistently create advantages through him on the floor.
Jackson is just coming into his own as a player, discovering his confidence. He knocked down shots here and found consistent opportunities for his team. Stock-rising weekend for him.
